This paper presents the theoretical changes that have developed in Conceptual Dependency Theory and their ramifications in computer analysis of natural language. The major items of concern are: the elimination of reliance on 'grammar rules' for parsing with the emphasis given to conceptual rule based parsing; the development of a conceptual case system to account for the power of conceptualizat...

Dependency parsing has gained attention in natural language understanding because the representation of dependency tree is simple, compact and direct such that robust partial understanding and task portability can be achieved more easily. However, many dependency parsers make hard decisions with local information while selecting among the next parse states. As a consequence, though the obtained...

Program dependency analysis is an analysis technique to identify and determine various program dependencies in program source codes. It is an important approach to testing, understanding, maintaining and transforming programs. But, there are still many difficulties to be solved when carrying out dependency analysis for concurrent programs because the execution of statements is unpredictable. In...

OBJECTIVES This paper addresses recent steps for reforming the eligibility criteria of the German long-term care insurance that have been initiated to overcome shortcomings in the current system. METHODS Based on findings of a survey of international long-term care systems, assessment tools and the relevant literature on care needs a new tool for determining eligibility in the German long-ter...

We have extended Maruyama's 5, 6, 7] constraint dependency grammar (CDG) to process a lattice or graph of sentence hypotheses instead of separate text strings. A post-processor to a speech recognizer producing N-best hypotheses generates the word graph representation, which is then augmented with information required for parsing. We will summarize the CDG parsing algorithm and then describe how...

A method of automatic answering of questions in natural language, based only on input texts and a set of rules of inference, is described. A first experimental system including a grammatico-semantic analysis of the input texts and questions, a procedure of inferencing, a search for appropriate answers to individual questions and a synthesis of the answers are being implemented, mainly in the la...

We describe in this paper a syntactic parser for spontaneous speech geared towards the identification of verbal subcategorization frames. The parser proceeds in two stages. The first stage is based on generic syntactic resources for French. The second stage is a reranker which is specially trained for a given application. The parser is evaluated on the MEDIA corpus.

This paper describes a preliminary work on prosody modeling aspect of a spoken language understanding system for Thai. Specifically, the model is designed to integrate prosodics into a language model based on constraint dependency grammar. There are two steps involved, namely the prosodic annotation process and the prosodic disambiguation process. The annotation process uses prosodic informatio...
