In situ deformation studies of polycrystalline materials using diffraction are an established method to understand elastic and plastic deformation of materials. Studies of active deformation mechanisms, the interplay of deformation with texture and ultimately the development of predictive capabilities for deformation modeling are an active field of research. Parameters studied by diffraction ar...

MultiRing is a network of 2 nodes which can be configured into different ring networks of n different configurations. It supports a wide variety of algorithms, such as algorithms for parallel image processing. In this paper, a MultiRing is implemented using a star topology with a MultiRing switch at the centre. We present a hierarchical design of the MultiRing switch. We demonstrate that the co...

We investigate reliable multicast communication over satellite networks. We compare a scenario where receivers can use a feedback channel to signal loss to a scenario where no feedback channel is available. We show that the introduction of a feedback channel is the key to allow for bandwidth-eecient, robust, and fully reliable multicast communication via satellite.

We present the design, fabrication, and characterization of single antagonistic SMA microactuators allowing for uni- bi-directional self-folding origami-inspired devices, respectively. Test devices consist two triangular tiles that are interconnected by double-beam-shaped fabricated from thin foils 20 µm thickness with memory shapes set to a 180° folding angle. Bi-directional is achieved combin...

20 Prolonged exposure to a single direction of motion alters perception of subsequent 21 static or dynamic stimuli and induces substantial changes in behaviors of motion22 sensitive neurons, but it remains unclear about an origin of neural adaptation and 23 neural correlates of perceptual consequences of motion adaptation in human brain. 24 Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we...

The communication-through-coherence (CTC) hypothesis proposes that anatomical connections are dynamically rendered effective or ineffective through the presence or absence of rhythmic synchronization, in particular in the gamma and beta bands. The original CTC statement proposed that uni-directional communication is due to rhythmic entrainment with an inter-areal delay and a resulting non-zero ...

In this paper, a 5.1-channel audio recording method is proposed by applying the mid-side (MS) stereo recording technique to a coincident microphone array. The coincident microphone array consists of a backward-facing cardioid microphone and the MS microphone array which is composed of a pair of forward-facing cardioid and sideways-facing figure-eight microphones. These 3 microphones produce two...

This Corning paper explains measurement behaviors of fusion spliced optical fibers and how glass properties and MFD (mode field diameter) differences across fiber splice junctions can lead to erroneous interpretations of splice loss when performing uni-directional OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) tests. This paper explains how uni-directional OTDR test results yield misleading splice lo...
