For an R-bounded families of operators on L1 we associate a family of representing measures and show that they form a weakly compact set. We consider a sectorial operator A which generates an R-bounded semigroup on L1. We show that given 2 > 0 there is an invertible operator U : L1 → L1 with ‖U − I‖ < 2 such that for some positive Borel function w we have U(D(A)) ⊃ L1(w).
We study a class of ergodic BSDEs related to PDEs with Neumann boundary conditions. The randomness of the driver is given by a forward process under weakly dissipative assumptions with an invertible and bounded diffusion matrix. Furthermore, this forward process is reflected in a convex subset of R not necessarily bounded. We study the link of such EBSDEs with PDEs and we apply our results to a...
For each S ∈ L(E) (with E a Banach space) the operator R(S) ∈ L(E/E) is defined by R(S)(x + E) = Sx + E (x ∈ E). We study mapping properties of the correspondence S → R(S), which provides a representation R of the weak Calkin algebra L(E)/W (E) (here W (E) denotes the weakly compact operators on E). Our results display strongly varying behaviour of R. For instance, there are no non–zero compact...
Traditional constraint-based and score-based methods for learning directed graphical models from continuous data have two significant limitations: (i) they require (in practice) assuming dependencies are linear with Gaussian noise; (ii) they cannot distinguish between Markov equivalent structures. More recent structure learning methods avoid both limitations by directly exploiting characteristi...
We study new invariant probability measures, describing the distribution of multivalued inverse iterates (i.e of different local inverse iterates) for a non-invertible smooth function f which is hyperbolic, but not necessarily expanding on a repellor Λ. The methods for the higher dimensional non-expanding and non-invertible case are different than the ones for diffeomorphisms, due to the lack o...
The recently proposed additive noise model has advantages over previous directed structure learning approaches since it (i) does not assume linearity or Gaussianity and (ii) can discover a unique DAG rather than its Markov equivalence class. However, for certain distributions, e.g. linear Gaussians, the additive noise model is invertible and thus not useful for structure learning, and it was or...
A uniformly recurrent pseudoword is an element of a free profinite semigroup in which every finite factor appears in every sufficiently long finite factor. An alternative characterization is as a pseudoword which is a factor of all its infinite factors, that is one which lies in a J -class with only finite words strictly J -above it. Such a J -class is regular and therefore it has an associated...
We describe a construction that to each algebraically specified notion of higher-dimensional category associates a notion of homomorphism which preserves the categorical structure only up to weakly invertible higher cells. The construction is such that these homomorphisms admit a strictly associative and unital composition. We give two applications of this construction. The first is to tricateg...
We prove that for well-behaved small commutative rig categories (aka. symmetric bimoidal categories) R the algebraic K-theory space of the K-theory spectrum, HR, of R is equivalent to K0(π0R)× |BGL(R)| where GL(R) is the monoidal category of weakly invertible matrices over R. In particular, this proves the conjecture from [BDR] that K(ku) is the K-theory of the 2-category of complex 2-vector sp...
