When the dimensionality of layered materials is reduced to the physical limit, an ultimate two-dimensional (2D) anisotropy and/or confinement effect may bring about extraordinary physical and chemical properties. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), bearing abundant hydroxyl groups covalently bonded within 2D host layers, have been proposed as inorganic anion conductors. However, typical hydroxyl ...
As a new family of two-dimensional (2D) materials, MXene, with many attractive physicochemical properties, has attracted increasing attentions and been applied for various applications. Here, for the first time, ultrathin MXene membranes with thickness down to several tens of nanometers were developed for pervaporation desalination by stacking synthesized atomic-thin MXene nanosheets. Influence...
Two dimension (2D) layered molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has emerged as a promising candidate for the anode material in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, 2D MoSx (2 ≤ x ≤ 3) nanosheet-coated 1D multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) nanocomposites with hierarchical architecture were synthesized via a high-throughput solvent thermal method under low temperature at 200°C. The unique hierarchical na...
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is an important material for photovoltaics, photocatalysis, sensors and lithium ion batteries. Various morphologies of TiO2 nanomaterials have been synthesized, including zero-dimensional (0D) nanoparticles, one-dimensional (1D) nanowires and nanotubes, as well as three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures. But the two-dimensional (2D) TiO2 nanostructures, which are expected ...
Integration of organic/inorganic hybrid perovskites with metallic or semiconducting phases of 2D MoS2 nanosheets via solution processing is demonstrated. The results show that the collection of charge carriers is strongly dependent on the electronic properties of the 2D MoS2 with metallic MoS2 showing high responsivity and the semiconducting phase exhibiting high on/off ratios.
Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal chalcogenides such as 2D MoS2 are considered prime candidate materials for the design of next generation optoelectronics. Functionalisation of these materials is considered to be a key step in tailoring their properties towards specific applications and unlocking their full potential. Here we present a van der Waals functionalisation strategy for creating M...
Ultrathin, two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets of layered transition-metal chalcogenides are theoretically and technologically intriguing. However, it still remains a great challenge to synthesize ultrathin nanosheets because of the lack of an intrinsic driving force for the anisotropic growth of 2D superposed microstructures. Here we demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, the in situ sy...
Ionic layer epitaxy (ILE) has recently been developed as an effective strategy to synthesize nanometer thick 2D materials with a nonlayered crystal structure, such as ZnO. The packing density of the amphiphilic monolayer is believed to be a key parameter that controls the nanosheet nucleation and growth. In this work, we systematically investigated the growth behavior of single-crystalline ZnO ...
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) was used as the model, an ultrasensitive label-free photoelectrochemical immunosensor was developed using 2D TiO2 nanosheets and carboxylated graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) as photoactive materials and ascorbic acid as an efficient electron donor. 2D TiO2 nanosheets was sythsized by surfactant self-assembly method and proved to have higher photoelectrochemical ...
