OBJECTIVE To analyze possible correlations among tubular dentine cement penetration, adhesiveness and apical leakage in fillings performed with gutta percha and an endodontic cement based on epoxy amine resin. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty similar, extracted human mandibular central incisors were irrigated, instrumented and filled following the same protocol. First, apical leakage was quantified...

Adhesiveness of the apical (free) plasma membrane of uterine epithelial cells for trophoblast is essential for the process of human embryo implantation. As epithelial cells are normally repellent, i.e. apically non-adhesive, we argue that a remodelling of the epithelial organization from a polarized to a non-polarized phenotype might prepare the apical pole for cell-cell adhesion during the so-...

AIMS To investigate aggregation and adhesiveness of Lactobacillus acidophilus M92 to porcine ileal epithelial cells in vitro, and the influence of cell surface proteins on autoaggregation and adhesiveness of this strain. METHODS AND RESULTS Lactobacillus acidophilus M92 exhibits a strong autoaggregating phenotype and manifests a high degree of hydrophobicity determined by microbial adhesion t...

Platelet survival time and platelet adhesiveness and aggregation were examined in 16 patients with prosthetic mitral valves. Subsequently, nine patients were treated with sulfinpyrazone in doses of 400 mg and 800 mg/day, and the studies were repeated after a treatment period of 5 to 8 weeks. 51Chromium survival time was shortened in 15 of 16 patients, and the mean value for the entire group was...

Exhaustive bicycle ergometric exercise in 20 untrained male and female medical students in the age group of 18-25 yrs resulted in significant changes in clotting and prothrombin time, platelet adhesiveness and fibrinolytic activity. Clotting and Prothrombin time were reduced while platelet adhesiveness and fibrinolytic activity were increased in both the sexes.

The acute effect of single dose of ethanol (1.5 g kg) and aspirin (10 mg/kg) alone and in combination, on platelet aggregation time and platelet adhesiveness were studied in rabbits. There was a significant and comparable increase in aggregation time both by aspirin and ethanol. Similarly platelet adhesiveness was decreased by both the agents.

Abstract. We demonstrate how concepts of statistical mechanics of interacting particles can have important implications in the choice of interaction potentials to model qualitative properties of cell aggregates in theoretical biology. We illustrate this by showing cell sorting phenomena for cell groups with different adhesiveness parameters: ranging from well-mixed cells aggregates to full segre...

We improved adhesiveness of a neuron-like cell, PC12, on a Parylene-C surface by O(2) plasma treatment which changes the surface from hydrophobic to hydrophilic. Neural cell adhesiveness on the plasma-treated Parylene-C was more than twenty times better compared to non-treated Parylene-C and it was close to that on a conventional polystyrene tissue-culture dish.

Adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells in inflammation processes leads to changes of endothelial cell-substrate adhesiveness, and understanding of such changes will provide us with important information of inflammation processes. In this study, we used a noninvasive biosensor system referred to as real-time cell electronic sensor (RT-CES) system to monitor the changes in endothelial cell-s...

The development of a quantitative method for measuring cell adhesion would allow tests to be made of a variety of hypotheses concerning the role of cell adhesiveness in many morphogenetic processes, such as segregation (Steinberg, 1963; Curtis, 1960, 1967), contact inhibition of movement (Abercrombie, 1961), malignancy, etc. Furthermore, the development of a quantitative method giving absolute ...
