background: increased life expectancy and the growing phenomenon of aging can lead to increased burden of chronic diseases (cds) which adversely affects the overall health of elderly, their sexuality in particular. sexual life of aged population is overlooked in many of the societies. in the present narrative review, we aim to assess the impact of cds on sexual function of elderly people. mater...

introduction: motor skills play an important role during life span, and older adults need to learn or relearn these skills. the purpose of this study was to investigate how aging affects induction of improved movement performance by motor training. methods: serial reaction time test (srtt) was used to assess movement performance during 8 blocks of motor training. participants were tested in two...

We study the problem of comparing ageing patterns lifetimes k-out-of-n systems with i.i.d. components. Mathematically, this reduces to being able decide about a stochastic ordering relationship between different order statistics. discuss such relationships respect second-order dominance, obtaining characterizations through verification relative convexity suitably chosen reference distribution f...

Increasing of the aging population in most of the developed countries should be more attention to the health issues of this aged group. In Iran, the ageing program has been launched and some institutes or organizations have been in charge of this program. The coordination of health policies and activities in elderly care programs and ageing networks could be helped to improve of elderly l...

This paper reviews the potential role of honey as a therapeutic antioxidant to reduce oxidative stress and improve cognitive ageing. All articles indexed to PubMed Central (PMC) were searched using the following key words: honey, antioxidant, memory and ageing. Honey is a natural insect-derived product with therapeutic, medicinal and nutritional values. Antioxidant properties of honey quench bi...

We measure the statistical distribution of the local density of optical states (LDOS) on disordered semicontinuous metal films. We show that LDOS fluctuations exhibit a maximum in a regime where fractal clusters dominate the film surface. These large fluctuations are a signature of surface-plasmon localization on the nanometer scale.

Many children fail to master fraction arithmetic even after years of instruction, a failure that hinders their learning of more advanced mathematics as well as their occupational success. To test hypotheses about why children have so many difficulties in this area, we created a computational model of fraction arithmetic learning and presented it with the problems from a widely used textbook ser...

Because the time to respond to a stimulus depend markedly on expectation, measurements of reaction time can, conversely, provide information about the brain's estimate of the probability of a stimulus. Previous studies have shown that the quantitative relationship between reaction time and static, long-term expectation or prior probability can be explained economically by the LATER model of dec...

The 3D structure of randomly polarized light fields is exemplified by its polarization singularities: lines along which the polarization is purely circular (C lines) and surfaces on which the polarization is linear (L surfaces). We visualize these polarization singularities experimentally in vector laser speckle fields, and in numerical simulations of random wave superpositions. Our results con...
