We investigate why half of X-ray–selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) in deep surveys lack signs of accretion in their optical spectra. The majority of these “optically–dull” AGN are no more than ∼ 6 times fainter than their host galaxies in rest-frame R-band; as such, AGN lines are unlikely to be overwhelmed by stellar continuum in at least half the sample. We find that optically–dull AGN hav...

We measure the clustering of non-quasar X-ray AGN at z = 0.7−1.4 in the AEGIS field. Using the cross-correlation of 113 Chandra-selected AGN, with a median log LX = 42.8 erg s , with ∼5,000 DEEP2 galaxies, we find that the X-ray AGN are fit by a power law with a clustering scale length of r0 = 5.95±0.90 h −1 Mpc and slope γ = 1.66±0.22. X-ray AGN have a similar clustering amplitude as red, quie...

In this study, the effects of the hot water root extract of Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) on the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and the possible mechanism of glucose transport were investigated. Post-confluent 3T3-L1 cells were differentiated in the presence (up to 400μg/ml) or absence of AGN Oil red O staining showed that AGN extract significantly enhanced adipocyte differentiation in a ...

In this paper we assess the relationship of the population of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) selected by hard X-rays to the traditional population of AGN with strong optical emission lines. First, we study the emission-line properties of a new hard X-ray selected sample of 47 local AGN (classified optically as both Type 1 and Type 2 AGN). We find that the hard Xray (3-20 keV) and [OIII]λ5007 opti...

The appearance of active galactic nuclei (AGN) depends so strongly on orientation that our current classification schemes are dominated by random pointing directions instead of more interesting physical properties. Light from the centers of many AGN is obscured by optically thick circumnuclear matter, particularly at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. In radio-loud AGN, bipolar jets emanating...

We present the results of calculations of the cosmic AGN background spectrum from 3 keV (4 × 10μm) to 1000μm. These computations make use of the measured X-ray luminosity function and its evolution, as well as fits from synthesis models of the cosmic X-ray background (CXB) to predict the AGN contribution to the cosmic infrared background (CIRB) for different models of the location and distribut...

Using spectrophotometry of a large sample of galaxies in 19 Abell Clusters, we have selected 42 candidate AGN by the criteria used by Dressler et al. 1985 (DTS) in their analysis of the statistics of 22 AGN in 14 rich cluster fields, which are based on the equivalent width of [OII]3727Å, Hβ, and [OIII]5007Å emission. We have then discriminated AGN from HII region-like galaxies (hereafter HII ga...

Oral solid formulations based on Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) and Soluplus were prepared by the hot-melting extrusion (HME) method. AGN was pulverized into coarse and ultrafine particles, and their particle size and morphology were investigated. Ultrafine AGN particles were used in the HME process with high shear to produce AGN-based formulations. In simulated gastrointestinal fluids (pH 1.2 and ...

We present a detailed and self-consistent modeling of the cosmic X-ray background (XRB) based on the most up-todate X-ray luminosity functions (XLF) and evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). The large body of observational results collected by soft (0.5-2 keV) and hard (2-10 keV) X-ray surveys are used to constrain at best the properties of the Compton-thin AGN population and its contribut...

The Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) has provided a uniform photometric catalog to search for previously unknown red AGN and QSOs. We have extended the search to the southern equatorial sky by obtaining spectra for 1182 AGN candidates using the Six Degree Field (6dF) multifibre spectrograph on the UK Schmidt Telescope. These were scheduled as auxiliary targets for the 6dF Galaxy Redshift Surve...
