A precision measurement by AMS of the antiproton flux and the antiproton-to-proton flux ratio in primary cosmic rays in the absolute rigidity range from 1 to 450 GV is presented based on 3.49×10^{5} antiproton events and 2.42×10^{9} proton events. The fluxes and flux ratios of charged elementary particles in cosmic rays are also presented. In the absolute rigidity range ∼60 to ∼500  GV, the ant...

We present results for antilambda and antiproton production in Au+Au collisions at 11.7 A GeV/c including spectra and extracted invariant yields for both species in central and peripheral collisions in the rapidity range 1.0<y<1.4. The antilambda yield increases from dN(Lambda;)/dy = 1.2(+0.7+0.2)(-0.6-0.2)x10(-3) in peripheral collisions to 19(+4+3)(-5-2)x10(-3) in central collisions. The dire...

The PAX project at GSI Darmstadt plans to polarize an antiproton beam by repeated interaction with a hydrogen target in a storage ring. Many of the beam particles are required to remain within the ring after interaction with the target, so small scattering angles are important. Hence we concentrate on low momentum transfer (small t), a region where electromagnetic effects dominate the hadronic ...

We propose to use an internal polarized hydrogen storage cell gas target in the AD ring to determine for the first time the two total spin–dependent p̄p cross sections σ1 and σ2 at antiproton beam energies in the range from 50 to 450 MeV. The data obtained are of interest by themselves for the general theory of p̄p interactions since they will provide a first experimental constraint of the spin–s...

We examine the transport of cosmic-ray protons and anitprotons from local interstellar space through the interplanetary medium to Earth and discuss the resulting e†ects on the low-energy antiproton/proton ratio at 1 AU. We Ðnd that the antiproton/proton ratio at energies above D3 GeV is a useful diagnostic of cosmic-ray transport in the Galaxy. However, at energies below D1 GeV the expected rat...

ALPHA is one of the experiments situated at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator (AD). A Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) is placed to surround the ALPHA atom trap. The main purpose of the SVD is to detect and locate antiproton annihilation events by means of the emitted charged pions. The SVD system is presented with special focus given to the design, fabrication and performance of the modules.

The former Antiproton Collector (AC) at CERN has been transformed into an Antiproton Decelerator (AD) to supply high quality antiproton beams with a momentum of 100 MeV/c (kinetic energy of 5.3 MeV) [1]. As in AC, antiprotons are injected at 3.57 GeV/c and cooled by stochastic cooling system. To facilitate the deceleration and to prepare a small emittance beam for the experiments, stochastic co...

A semi-classical, many-body atomic model incorporating a momentum-dependent Heisenberg core to stabilize atomic electrons is used to study antiproton capture on Helium. Details of the antiproton collisions leading to eventual capture are presented, including the energy and angular momentum states of incident antiprotons which result in capture via single or double electron ionization, i.e. into...

A brief review of antiproton–nucleus physics is presented. Some topics are related to early LEAR experiments, and others to more recent measurements or proposals. These include: exotic molecules, elastic and inelastic scattering, deep annihilation, strangeness production, neutron–antineutron oscillations, halo nu-clei, antiproton production in nuclear reactions etc.
