For realistic simulations, architecture is one of the most important elements to model and render photorealistically. Current techniques of converting architectural plans or survey data to CAD models are labor intensive, and methods for rendering such models are generally not photorealistic. In this work, we present a new approach for modeling and rendering existing architectural scenes from a ...

In this paper we describe a project that integrates a non-photorealistic rendering pipeline into an existing CAD system. The pipeline enables the customers of the CAD company to create aesthetically appealing renderings in addition to the classical CAD output. Since these customers are operating in the high-quality segment of furniture and interior design, the visual style of the sales brochure...

While advances in CAD modeling techniques led to an ever increasing number of available architectural 3D models, reusability of these models as templates or as inspiration sources is still very limited. One reason for this is that there exist basically no shape retrieval methods specialized in the architectural domain. In this work, we therefore present a method to efficiently characterize 3D a...

This paper presents an "inverse" reasoning to solve problems of sunlighting, visibility and solar reflection in architectural and urban spaces. We propose a numerical model which enables to mix these parameters. Inverse simulation considers the relation between a given observer or an area and environmental elements. This relation represents a volumetric constraint. The CAD tool which is develop...

Computer Aided Design (CAD) and architectural models typically contain hundreds of thousands to millions of 3D primitives. In order to display these models at interactive rates, the number of primitives to be rendered must be reduced. This paper presents an experimental system which combines multiple simplification algorithms into a single framework for the rapid display of massive geometric mo...

During the last decade database systems are used to represent spatial information mainly in the twodimensional plane or the three-dimensional space. Applications that rely on spatial databases can be found in CAD-CAM, VLSI, robotics, historical databases, geographical information systems, architectural sciences, visual perception and autonomous navigation, tracking, environmental protection and...

This paper presents an analytical model that relates the architectural parameters of an FPGA to the place-and-route runtimes of the FPGA CAD tools. We consider both a simulated annealing based placement algorithm employing a bounding-box wirelength cost function, and a negotiationbased A* router. We also show an example application of the model in early architecture evaluation.
