Aureobasidium pullulans strain Y117 was transformed to hygromycin resistance using plasmid pDH33, which contains the bacterial hygromycin B phosphotransferase gene (hph) fused to promoter elements of the Aspergillus niger glucoamylase gene (glaA). Southern hybridizations of transformants revealed multiple, integrated copies of the vector. The glaA promoter was not induced by starch in A. pullul...

The production of pullulan from molasses and synthetic medium by Aureobasidium pullulans P56 in batch culture was investigated. Among the pretreatments of molasses used to increase polysaccharide production, sulfuric acid + activated carbon treatment gave better results with regard to polysaccharide concentration, polysaccharide yield and sugar utilization. A maximum polysaccharide concentratio...

A β-glucan produced by Aureobasidium pullulans (AP-PG) is consisting of a β-(1,3)-linked main chain with β-(1,6)-linked glucose side residues. Various β-glucans consisting of β-(1,3)-linked main chain including AP-PG are believed to exhibit anti-tumor activities, and actually, anti-tumor activities of AP-PG in mice have been demonstrated. In this study, we demonstrate that stimulation with AP-P...

Statistically significant differences in the structure and function of above-ground grapevine-associated microorganisms from organically and conventionally managed vineyards were found. Aureobasidium pullulans, a copper-detoxifying fungus and biocontrol agent, plays a key role in explaining these differences. The black fungus was strongly enriched in the communities of organically managed plant...

The mold Aureobasidium pullulans was isolated on several nutrient media from a splenic abscess in a patient with disseminated lymphoma. Examination of stained smears and paraffin sections revealed fungal structures characteristic of this organism. This is the first reported association of A. pullulans with an opportunistic visceral infection.

We present a case of chronic meningitis due to the mold Aureobasidium proteae. Clinical features, the disease course, as well as the diagnostic methods and optimal treatment options are discussed. This case confirms the neuroinvasiveness of A. proteae and introduces it as a new human pathogen.

Growth of Aureobasidium was noted on both painted and unpainted wood surfaces but not on painted glass slides, indicating that the source of carbon and energy for growth was not associated with paint components but was probably supplied by the wood. Several aromatic compounds related to aromatic extractives of wood were shown to support growth of this fungus.

The anion exchanger phosphocellulose and the cation exchanger triethylaminoethyl cellulose were used to immobilize cells of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans ATCC 201253 and the adsorbed cells were subsequently investigated for their ability to produce the polysaccharide pullulan using batch fermentation. The cells adsorbed on the triethylaminoethyl cellulose at pH 7.5 produced higher pullulan...
