background multiple sclerosis (ms) is a demyelinating condition affecting the central nervous system. although the cause of this condition is unknown, patients with ms seem to have genetic vulnerability to certain environmental factors such as infection that could trigger this condition. objectives we conducted this study to determine whether ms risk increases following primary infection with e...

epstein-barr virus (ebv) was discovered 50 years ago from an african burkitt lymphoma cell line. ebv-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (lpds) are life-threatening diseases, especially in children. in this article, we review ebv-associated lpds, especially in the area of primary immunodeficiency disease (pid). we searched pubmed for publications with key words including ebv infection, lym...

background: the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and viral load of epstein–barr virus (ebv) and human herpesvirus‑6 (hhv‑6) in different histopathologic grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma (oscc). methods: forty‑five formalin‑fixed paraffin‑embedded tissue section of oscc patients were analyzed by quantitative real‑time polymerase chain reaction for detection of ebv and hhv‑...

Lymphocytes were infected with the QIMR-WIL strain of Epstein-Barr virus, and the induction of Epstein-Barr virus-associated nuclear antigens was determined by using the protein immunoblot. There was a temporal increase in six antigens, with Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 2 being detected 1 day after infection. The appearance of these antigens was shown to be independent of cellular DNA synthesis.

Background & Objectives: The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV( is related with various diseases including infectious mononucleosis, Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and post-transplant lymphoprolifrative disorders. The aim of this study was to characterize the association between EBV and Hodgkin's lymphoma through EBERs in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH) in Iranian pat...

Marmoset blood leukocytes transformed in vitro by Epstein-Barr virus regularly release extracellular infectious Epstein-Barr virus with high titers of transforming activity. By comparison, human umbilical cord leukocytes and adult human leukocytes transformed by Epstein-Barr virus release either no extracellular infectious virus or small amounts, irregularly.

Cotton-top tamarins were inoculated with sufficient Epstein-Barr virus to induce multiple tumors in each animal within 14 to 21 days. The tumors consisted of large-cell lymphomas that contained multiple copies of the Epstein-Barr virus genome and generated Epstein-Barr virus-carrying cell lines showing no detectable consistent chromosomal abnormality. Hybridization of tumor DNA with immunoglobu...

the aim of this work was to see whether tamarin immunisation with recombinant vaccinia virus expressing epstein barr virus latent proteins could prime t cells which were, on activation, able to inhibit the outgrowth of epstein barr virus transformed cells in vitro. the vaccination appeared to be successful as all vaccinated tamarins developed vaccinia lesions. however, the vaccination protocol ...

INTRODUCTION Systemic Epstein-Barr-virus-positive T cell lymphoproliferative disease of childhood is an extremely rare disorder, characterized by clonal proliferation of Epstein-Barr-virus-infected T cells with an activated cytotoxic phenotype. The disease is more frequent in Asia and South America, with only few cases reported in Western countries. A prompt diagnosis, though often difficult, i...
