Various species of Streptomyces possess aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes. Streptomyces kanamyceticus contains an enzyme that acetylates the 6'-amino group of kanamycin A and B, gentamicin C(1a), and neomycin. Streptomyces spectabilis produces an enzyme that acetylates the 2'-amino group of the hexose ring of gentamicin C(1a). These enzymes catalyze reactions identical to those catalyzed by enzy...

Six new kinamycin antibiotics, designated as FL-120A-D' (1-6) were isolated from the culture filtrate of Streptomyces sp. strain IY2-13. Based on its cultural, physiological, morphological and chemical characteristics, this strain was identified as a new subspecies of Streptomyces chattanoogensis and named S. chattanoogensis subsp. taitungensis. These kinamycins have demonstrated a potent activ...

FR-900109 is a new antibiotic obtained from fermentation broth of a streptomyces which was identified as Streptomyces prunicolor. Its elementary analysis and mass spectroscopic measurement suggest that the molecular formula is C27H32O9. It has an ultraviolet absorption maximum at 254 nm. The antibiotic is active against Gram-positive bacteria. Acute toxicity in mice is very low.

A new actinomycete strain, designated US80 and producing antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi, was isolated from Tunisian oasis soil. Cultural characteristic studies strongly suggested that this strain belongs to the genus Streptomyces. The nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene (1517 pb) of Streptomyces sp. strain US80 exhibited close similarity...

Streptomyces cacaoi subsp. cacaoi, a Gram-positive, branching filamentous bacteria, was isolated from a scalp infection in a patient from Pondicherry, India. Phenotypic tests identified the isolate as a Streptomyces species, but 16S rRNA sequence analysis provided the species identification required for tracking of this emerging pathogen.

A new species of Streptomyces is described for which the name Streptomyces aculeolatus is proposed. The organism produces new antibiotics SF2415A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3 active against Gram-positive bacteria. Empirical molecular formulae of the antibiotics SF2415A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3 were determined to be C26H31N2O5Cl, C26H30N2O5, C26H30N2O5Cl2, C26H33O5Cl, C26H32O5 and C26H32O5Cl2, respect...

A new Streptomycete was isolated from soils of Andhra Pradesh in India. The morphological, cultural, physiological and biochemical characters were studied, compared to known species and identified as a new species of Streptomyces rufus. Antibiotic activity of the strain was tested against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi and yeasts.

Two of seven tetracycline-resistant (Tcr) Mycobacterium fortuitum group isolates and six Tcr clinical Streptomyces isolates carried gram-positive Tcr determinants (Tet K and Tet L) and Streptomyces resistance determinants (Otr A, Otr B, and Otr C). This represents the first documentation of the acquisition by mycobacteria of determinants coding for antibiotic resistance and suggests the potenti...
