Uncoupler CCCP inhibited the growth of Anabaena sp. CH1 and CH2 and reduced their photosynthetic rate and nitrogenase activity. It was determined that upon CCCP addition, nitrogenase activities of CH1 and CH2 declined to almost zero within 1 and 6 hours. Such decline may be caused by the direct inhibition of nitrogenase synthesis rather than by indirect interruption of the phosphorylation process.

The effect of carbonyl cyanide- m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) on Cl- uptake across the brush-border membrane (BBM) was quantified using36Cl and BBM vesicles from guinea pig ileum. CCCP inhibited only partially both the pH gradient-activated Cl- uptake and Cl-/Cl-exchange activities present in these vesicles. In contrast, CCCP had no effect on the initial (2-30 s) decay rate of an imposed proto...

The Capacitated Centered Clustering Problem (CCCP) is NP-hard and has many practical applications. In recent years, excellent CCCP solving algorithms have been proposed, but their ability to search in the neighborhood space of clusters still insufficient. Based on adaptive Biased Random-Key Genetic Algorithm (A-BRKGA), this paper proposes an efficient iterative algorithm A-BRKGA_INLS. us...

The leucine-specific binding protein of Escherichia coli is a periplasmic protein that is synthesized as a precursor and subsequently is processed during its secretion into the periplasmic space. The processing of both the leucine-specific binding protein and a plasmid-coded beta-lactamase is inhibited by phenethyl alcohol and by the proton ionophore, carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CC...

A k-edge-coloring of a graph G = (V, E) is a function c that assigns an integer c(e) (called color) in {0, 1, · · · , k−1} to every edge e ∈ E so that adjacent edges get different colors. A k-edge-coloring is linear compact if the colors incident to every vertex are consecutive. The problem k − LCCP is to determine whether a given graph admits a linear compact k-edge coloring. A k-edge-coloring...

The mechanism of light stimulation of active K and Cl influx and active Na efflux, in Hydrodictyon africanum has been investigated using different wavelengths of red light and different gas mixtures, and the inhibitors DCMU and CCCP. The active Cl influx requires photosystem 2, since its relative quantal efficiency falls with increasing wavelength of red light, and it is as sensitive to the inh...

Peptide neuromodulators are released from a unique organelle: the dense-core vesicle. Dense-core vesicles are generated at the trans-Golgi and then sort cargo during maturation before being secreted. To identify proteins that act in this pathway, we performed a genetic screen in Caenorhabditis elegans for mutants defective in dense-core vesicle function. We identified two conserved Rab2-binding...

Olsson and co-authors have recently published interesting papers on oxidative stress in lizards. The aim is to understand the mechanisms defining ageing rates in free-ranging animals, particularly by looking at mitochondrial production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Indeed, ROS, and more specifically superoxide, are chronically formed at different sites of the electron transport chain (ETC) ...

The rate and the total amount of Ca2+ elevation in the presynaptic terminals of bullfrog sympathetic ganglia depend on the firing frequency of the terminals. Carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP), a mitochondrial uncoupler, was used for testing whether mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake is one of the mechanisms that underlie this frequency dependence. Fura-2 fluorimetry was used for measuremen...
