We report a case of transient crossed cerebellar diaschisis secondary to cerebral hyperperfusion following carotid endarterectomy. The appearance of crossed cerebellar diaschisis under the presence of cerebral hyperperfusion may suggest the development of hyperperfusion syndrome.

Participation of the autonomic nervous system in cerebellar autoregulation during supratentorial cerebral ischemia induced by bilateral carotid ligation was studied using 23 spontaneously hypertensive rats. Cerebral and cerebellar blood flows measured by a hydrogen clearance method were evaluated under stepwise hemorrhagic hypotension before and 30 minutes after ligation and after a 30-minute r...

The cerebellum's role in nonmotor processes is now well accepted, but cerebellar interaction with cerebral targets is not well understood. Complex cognitive tasks activate cerebellar, parietal, and frontal regions, but the effective connectivity between these regions has never been tested. To this end, we used psycho-physiological interactions (PPI) analysis to test connectivity changes of cere...

Cerebral cortical intrinsic connectivity networks share topographically arranged functional connectivity with the cerebellum. However, the contribution of cerebellar nodes to distributed network organization and function remains poorly understood. In humans, we applied theta-burst transcranial magnetic stimulation, guided by subject-specific connectivity, to regions of the cerebellum to evaluat...

In 2 studies, a method of linear morphometry was applied to regulatory developmental neurotoxicity studies in the rat. The first study involved the development of the brain during postnatal days (PNDs) 7-63, and the second involved the effects of 8 mg/kg i.p. trimethyltin chloride (TMT) to rats at PND 8, with morphometry performed at PNDs 12 and 24. The results of the TMT linear morphometry wer...

Childhood cerebral hemiatrophy is a rare clinical condition. Its causes are numerous, but they can be divided into two categories: congenital and acquired. The type develops intrauterine, whereas the acquired early in life, usually before age of two. Cerebral syndromes characterized by wide range neurological symptoms. epilepsy, mental retardation, neuropsychiatric disorders common, movement su...

Crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD) is a functional deficit of the cerebellar hemisphere resulting from loss of afferent input consequent to a lesion of the contralateral cerebral hemisphere. It is manifested as a reduction of metabolism and blood flow and, depending on severity and duration, it can result in atrophy, a phenomenon known as crossed cerebellar atrophy (CCA). While CCA has been we...

A 7-year-old boy developed mutism after surgery for cerebellar medulloblastoma. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed atrophy of the cerebellar vermis and both cerebellar hemispheres, predominantly on the right side. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with technetium-99m-ethyl cysteinate dimer (Tc-99m ECD) revealed decreased cerebral blood flow (CBF) in the bilat...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE MR imaging findings of cerebellar cortical dysplasia have been described as a new cerebellar malformation. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of cerebellar cortical dysplasia with other cerebral malformations. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 46 MR examinations of patients presenting with developmental delay, hypotonia, and facial deformities to ...
