Forty-six dogs with either cervical (C1-C5 or C6-T2) or thoracolumbar (T3-L3) acute myelopathy underwent prospective conventional computed tomography (CT), angiographic CT, myelography, and CT myelography. Findings were confirmed at either surgery or necropsy. Seventy-eight percent of lesions were extradural, 11% were extradural with an intramedullary abnormality, 7% were intramedullary, 2% wer...

Objective- To evaluate and compare the radiographic efficacy and safety of a non-ionic dimeric and isotonic iodinated contrast medium, iodixanol (320 mgI/ml) and a non-ionic monomer and hypertonic contrast medium, iohexol (300 mgI/ml) in feline cervical myelography. Design- Experimental study Animals- Five adult healthy cats. Procedures- Iodixanol and iohexol were injected into the cerebello...

A newborn infant with negative perinatal history and characteristic clinical findings of upper cervical spinal cord section is described. Metrizamide myelography performed on the 7th and 22nd days of life was negative. Peroneal somatosensory evoked responses showed a conduction block at the cervical level. Necropsy revealed a haemangioblastoma extending from levels C1 to C5.

The lateral C1-C2 needle insertion for cervical myelography is a valuable alternative to lumbar puncture and is considered a safe procedure. Mullen et al. [1] initially described this approach for cervical cordotomy and later Kelly and Alexander [2] adopted this technique for visualization of the spinal canal and its contents. Mullen early reported transient paresis and vertebral artery embolus...

Limited flip angle (LFA), gradient echo imaging was performed in 130 patients for evaluation of cervical radicular complaints. The LFA study was compared with myelography, CT myelography, and surgical results. Image quality was considered good or excellent for 128 patients. The use of a 10 degrees flip angle with a TR of 75 msec and TE of 12.3 msec consistently provided good contrast and signal...

Myelography of the entire spinal cord was performed in 64 consecutive patients using metrizamide via lumbar puncture. Adequate to good opacification of the cervical and thoracic subarachnoid space was obtained in 63 patients. The technical factors responsible for this success rate are patient cooperation, high iodine concentration, high iodine concentration (250 mg/ml), slow injection rate, del...

A 47-year-old man with Hirayama's disease who developed cervical spondylotic amyotrophy (CSA) is presented. The patient had noted weakness and atrophy of hand and forearm muscles bilaterally at the age of 16. At the age of 40, he developed proximal muscle atrophy and weakness bilaterally after 20 years of a non-progressive state. Myelography and computed tomography (CT)-myelography revealed tha...

The herniation of intervertebral disk material into the dural sac is a rare occurrence; a total of 50 cases have been reported in the literature. Forty-five (90%) are reported in the lumbar spine, most at the L4-L5 interspace, three (6%) in the cervical spine [1 , 2, 3], and two (4%) in the thoracic spine [4]. The lesion is reported to have a typical , irregular intradural defect on myelography...
