Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii, is an important parasitic disease worldwide. Different techniques have been developed for T. gondii detection. At present, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been widely used. However, PCR for identifying T. gondii remains unsatisfactory in many laboratories because of lack of standardization and variations in efficiency. In the present study, we opt...

dna extraction with an appropriate quality and quantity is the first step in molecular identification of some group of insects that their identification morphologically is difficult and dependent on a particular life stage, size or gender. selection of a suitable protocol is a key factor to provide a pure dna. in this study quality and quantity of five extraction methods used in entomological l...

This paper reports on the adsorption of Cr(VI), Cu(II) and Pb(II) from laboratory solution by the use of Chelex 100 (C100) and Amberlite IRA400 ion exchange resins. Metal loading at initial pHs of 3 to 8 at 1-100 mg/L were studied based on Q max and K f values of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, respectively. Lead was sorbed the most (Q max = 75.19 mg/g, at pH 6), followed by Cu (Q ...

PCR detection of seeded poliovirus type 1 in sludge-amended soil was made possible by utilizing Sephadex G-50 and Chelex-100 resins to remove compounds present in sludge-amended soil that may inhibit PCR. With this method, enteroviruses indigenous to an anerobically digested sludge were detected by PCR in 10 different soils amended with this sludge.

A method for the speciation of zinc and copper binding with proteins in human serum was explored by chelating resin (Chelex-100) pre-treatment and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). It was shown by a SEC (size-exclusion chromatography)-ICP-MS system that albumin-zinc and albumin-copper (loosely-bound species) could be selectively removed from serum by adsorption on the Chele...

Trace mineral studies involving metal ion chelators have been conducted in investigating the response of gene and protein expressions of certain cell lines but a few had really focused on how these metal ion chelators could affect the availability of important trace minerals such as Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu. The aim of the present study was to investigate the availability of Zn for the treatment of MC...

Freshwaters are recognized as dynamic systems that may be far-removed from equilibrium. A kinetic approach using the competing ligand exchange method with Chelex 100 as the competing ligand and inductively coupled plasmamass spectrometry to measure the dissociation kinetics was used to investigate the chemical speciation of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and Pb(II) in model sol...

with impervious exteriors, such as shells or chitinous exoskeletons. Advantages to this method are high throughput, high success rate and enough template DNA for several different assays (FRE-PCR used only 5 μL of the 20-μL supernatant). Other extraction methods that were tried and discarded for low success rates included boiling in water or PCR buffer, grinding before boiling, grinding with co...

Simple sample-processing methods for PCR detection of Porphyromonas gingivalis, a major pathogen causing adult periodontitis, from saliva were studied. The ability to detect P. gingivalis from 118 salivary samples by PCR after boiling and Chelex 100 processing was compared with bacterial culture. P. gingivalis was detected three times more often by PCR than by culture. Chelex 100 processing of ...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate three methods of DNA extraction for the amplification of Chlamydia trachomatis in uterine cervical samples collected in PreservCyt solution. ThinPrep is the trade name for the slide preparation. METHODS Thirty-eight samples collected in LCx buffer medium, which were identified as C. trachomatis infected by ligase chain reaction (LCR)...
