BACKGROUND We present a rare case of secondary angle closure glaucoma due to systemic lupus erythematosus choroidopathy as initial presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus, accompanied by central nervous system vasculitis and uncontrolled nephropathy. CASE PRESENTATION A 31-year-old woman presented with decreased visual acuity, nausea, vomiting, fever, and bilateral angioedema-like eyelid...
purpose: to report a rare case of ciliochoroidal malignant melanoma presenting as a subconjunctival black-colored mass adjacent to the limbus. patient and findings: a 42-year-old woman presented with a subconjunctival black-colored mass adjacent to the limbus in left eye from 2 years ago. the lesion had increased in size during the previous 2 months. funduscopic examination with scleral depress...
Three patients who had extracapsular cataract extractions with intraocular lens implants developed delayed ciliochoroidal detachments, which responded to systemic steroid therapy. This rare complication may have been due to ciliary sulcus fixation of the implant. The possible mechanism and treatment are discussed.
A nterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive, painless, noncontact technique that provides accurate and reproducible images. This technique correlates well with ultrasound biomicroscopy, allows observation of iridocorneal angle abnormalities in the presence of opaque media, and is easier to perform than ultrasound biomicroscopy. A cyclodialysis cleft results from separa...
Cyclodialysis cleft is separation of meridonal ciliary muscle fibers from the scleral spur, thereby creating an additional drainage pathway of aqueous humor into the suprachoroidal space.1-4 This new drainage pathway leads to increase in uveoscleral outflow and may result in chronic ocular hypotony.5 The hypotony may also be due to decreased aqueous production.6 In past, creating an iatrogenic ...
BACKGROUND The initial use of a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner for obtaining quantitative perfusion data from a large ciliochoroidal melanoma, and correlation with 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) dynamic enhancement and tumor histology. METHODS The CT perfusion scan was performed using 80 kVp, 250 mA and 1-sec rotation time for 40 sec. The analysis was performed using commercia...
we report a rare case of brucellosis presenting with pleural and pericardial effusions in a 35 year-old male rancher in iran with fever and dyspnea. such findings should prompt inclusion of brucellosis in the differential diagnosis in endemic areas.
To further elucidate the somatic genetic alterations leading to acquired choroidal and ciliochoroidal melanoma, we screened every autosomal arm and the X chromosome of 50 primary posterior melanomas (31 choroidal tumors and 19 ciliochoroidal tumors). A minimum of two microsatellite markers were used to achieve at least 90% informativity (excluding X). Twenty-eight of 47 informative tumors (59%)...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Uveal schwannoma is a rare benign neoplastic proliferation of pure Schwann cells. The purpose of this study was to describe MR imaging features of uveal schwannoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS MR images in 6 female patients with uveal schwannoma confirmed by pathologic examination were retrospectively reviewed. MR imaging was performed in all 6 patients, with postcontrast T1-...
