In this paper, we give some necessary conditions for an $r$-partite graph such that the edge ring of the graph is Cohen-Macaulay. It is proved that if there exists a cover of an $r$-partite Cohen-Macaulay graph by disjoint cliques of size $r$, then such a cover is unique.
The directed vertex leafage of a chordal graph G is the smallest integer k such that G is the intersection graph of subtrees of a rooted directed tree where each subtree has at most k leaves. In this note, we show how to find in time O(kn) an optimal colouring, a maximum independent set, a maximum clique, and an optimal clique cover of an n-vertex chordal graph G with directed vertex leafage k ...
In many wireless networks, there is no fixed physical backbone nor centralized network management. The nodes of such a network have to self-organize in order to maintain a virtual backbone used to route messages. Moreover, any node of the network can be a priori at the origin of a malicious attack. Thus, in one hand the backbone must be fault-tolerant and in other hand it can be useful to monit...
We show that edge-clique graphs of cocktail party graphs have unbounded rankwidth. This, and other observations lead us to conjecture that the edge-clique cover problem is NP-complete for cographs. We show that the independent set problem on edge-clique graphs of cographs and of distance-hereditary graphs can be solved in polynomial time. We show that the independent set problem on edge-clique ...
The clique cover width of G, denoted by ccw(G), is the minimum value of the bandwidth of all graphs that are obtained by contracting the cliques in a clique cover of G into a single vertex. For i = 1, 2, ..., d, let Gi be a graph with V (Gi) = V , and let G be a graph with V (G) = V and E(G) = ∩di=1(Gi), then we write G = ∩di=1Gi and call each Gi, i = 1, 2, ..., d a factor of G. The case where ...
A universal representation theorem is derived that shows any graph is the intersection graph of one chordal graph, a number of co-bipartite graphs, and one unit interval graph. Central to the the result is the notion of the clique cover width which is a generalization of the bandwidth parameter. Specifically, we show that any planar graph is the intersection graph of one chordal graph, four co-...
The generalized Mycielskians (also known as cones over graphs) are the natural generalization of the Mycielski graphs (which were first introduced by Mycielski in 1955). Given a graph G and any integer m 0, one can transform G into a new graph m(G), the generalized Mycielskian of G. This paper investigates circular clique number, total domination number, open packing number, fractional open pac...
The guessing game introduced by Riis [Electron. J. Combin. 2007] is a variant of the “guessing your own hats” game and can be played on any simple directed graph G on n vertices. For each digraph G, it is proved that there exists a unique guessing number gn(G) associated to the guessing game played on G. When we consider the directed edge to be bidirected, in other words, the graph G is undirec...
Indeterminate strings have received considerable attention in the recent past; see for example [1] and [3]. This attention is due to their applicability in bioinformatics, and to the natural correspondence with undirected graphs. One aspect of this correspondence is the fact that the minimal alphabet size of indeterminates representing any given undirected graph corresponds to the size of the m...
In an attempt to find a polynomial-time algorithm for the edgeclique cover problem on cographs we tried to prove that the edge-clique graphs of cographs have bounded rankwidth. However, this is not the case. In this note we show that the edge-clique graphs of cocktail party graphs have unbounded rankwidth.
