In June 2011, 34 specimens of round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) were caught at three different locations in the Sava River in Croatia, which is a first record of this invasive species in Danube tributaries in Croatia. Size, structure and condition of populations indicate that the species is well adjusted to its new habitat and that further range expansions are highly likely.

We investigated the phenomenon of cell-cell aggregation (flocculation) in a serotype D strain of Cryptococcus neoformans (ATCC 24067, isolate RC-2). Cell aggregation into clumps of 5-40 cells (clump+ cells) occurred during the early log phase and disappeared in the beginning of the stationary phase (clump- cells). The cell aggregation phenomenon was medium dependent. Clump+ cells could be dispe...

We present deep HST/ACS observations of the G1 clump, a distinct stellar overdensity lying at ∼ 30 kpc along the south-western major axis of M31 close to the G1 globular cluster (Ferguson et al. 2002). Our well-populated colour-magnitude diagram reaches ∼7 magnitudes below the red giant branch tip with 90% completeness, and allows the detection of various morphological features which can be use...

Using the HST Wide Field Camera (WFC) of the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), we have obtained deep (V, I) photometry of an outer-halo field in NGC 5128, to a limiting magnitude of I ≃ 29. Our photometry directly reveals the core helium-burning stellar population (the “red clump” or horizontal branch) in a giant E/S0 galaxy for the first time. The color-magnitude diagram displays a very wide ...

We present the results of CO observations by the Nobeyama Millimeter Array toward dense clumps with radii of ∼ 0.3 pc in six cluster-forming regions including massive (proto)stars. We identified 171 cores, whose radius, line width, and molecular mass range from 0.01 to 0.09 pc, 0.43 to 3.33 km s, and 0.5 to 54.1 M⊙, respectively. Many cores with various line widths exist in one clump, and the i...

Hipparcos data has allowed the identification of a large number of clump stars in the Solar Neighbourhood. We discuss our present knowledge about their distributions of masses, ages, colours, magnitudes, and metallicities. We point out that the age distribution of clump stars is “biased” towards intermediate-ages. Therefore, the metallicity information they contain is different from that provid...

Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs), which are abnormal impulse propagations in cardiac tissue, can develop because of various reasons including early afterdepolarizations (EADs). We show how a cluster of EAD-generating cells (EAD clump) can lead to PVCs in a model of cardiac tissue, and also investigate the factors that assist such clumps in triggering PVCs. In particular, we study, through...

Abstract:  The precision of conventional sampling designs is not usually satisfactory for estimating parameters of clump and rare populations. Many of fish species live in school and disperse all over a vast area like a sea so that they are rare compare to their habitats. Theory of a class of sampling designs called adaptive sampling designs has rapidly grown during last decade which solv...

Abstract In southern Brazil some species of Dyckia genus occur as rheophytes. ibiramensis is an endemic bromeliad that occurs in discrete patches the rocky banks along Itajaí do Norte River, Santa Catarina state. Four populations River were studied. each population, all rosettes counted and diameter rosette was measured. The spatial distribution identified isolated or a clump. clumps classified...
