We explore the cosmological consequences of Modified Gravity (MOG), and find that it provides, using a minimal number of parameters, good fits to data, including CMB temperature anisotropy, galaxy power spectrum, and supernova luminosity-distance observations. The MOG cosmology predicts a flat universe with an accelerating expansion and an age of ∼14 billion years.
We use a combination of three largeN -body simulations to investigate the dependence of dark matter halo concentrations on halo mass and redshift in the WMAP year 5 cosmology. The median relation between concentration and mass is adequately described by a power-law for halo masses in the range 10 − 10 hM⊙ and redshifts z < 2, regardless of whether the halo density profiles are fit using NFW or ...
From the standpoint of theoretical physics we can treat Newtonian cosmology as a problem in nonlinear dynamics. The attempt to average the density, in search of a method of making contact between theory and observation, is replaced by the more systematic idea of coarsegraining. I also explain in this context why two previous attempts at the construction of hierarchical models of the universe ar...
p { margin-bottom: 0in; direction: rtl; text-align: right; }p.ctl { font-size: 12pt; }a:link { color: rgb(0, 0, 255); } In this paper, we study a restricted modified gravity in which diffeomorphism symmetry is broken. We investigate the astrophysical implications of the model by using the corresponding gravitational potential. By using the weight function of the weak lensing , for the model,...
Physical cosmology places constraints on philosophical cosmologies, understood in Alfred North Whitehead’s sense as comprehensive theories of nature and ultimate reality. These constraints are not strict because it is usually possible for a philosophical cosmology to work around an awkward implication from physical cosmology, though the price may be a decrease in plausibility. This paper identi...
I study the evolution of haloes density profiles as a function of time in the SCDM and ΛCDM cosmologies. Following Del Popolo et al. (1999), I calculate the concentration parameter c = rv/a and study its time evolution. For a given halo mass, I find that c(z) ∝ 1/(1 + z) both in the ΛCDM and SCDM cosmology, in agreement with Bullock et al. (1999) analytic model and N-body simulations. In both m...
We consider a new approach for Chaplygin cosmology, in which the relativistic formulation of Chaplygin matter is of crucial importance. Our results show that (for all times) the universe consists of a novel form of matter with dust like density (∼ (volume) −1) and negative pressure. This is in contrast to the usual Chaplygin cosmology, based on non-relativistic equation of state, that implies a...
We develop a four-dimensional effective theory for Randall-Sundrum models which allows us to calculate long wavelength adiabatic perturbations in a regime where the ρ2 terms characteristic of braneworld cosmology are significant. This extends previous work employing the moduli space approximation. We extend the treatment of the system to include higher derivative corrections present in the cont...
We explore the cosmological consequences of Modified Gravity (MOG), and find that it provides, using a minimal number of parameters, good fits to data, including CMB temperature anisotropy, galaxy mass power spectrum, and supernova luminosity-distance observations. The MOG cosmology is flat and predicts an age of the universe of ∼ 34 billion years.
A brief review of the field of braneworld cosmology, from its inception with the large extra dimension scenario, to aspects of cosmology in warped extra dimensions, including the RS-I and RS-II models, braneworld inflation, the Goldberger-Wise mechanism, mirage cosmology, the radion-induced phase transition in RS-I, possible gravity wave signals, and the DGP model.
