The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) can be seen as a filterbank having logarithmic frequency subbands spacing similar to the human auditory system. Thus, to make computers imitate the significant functions of the human auditory system, one promising approach would be to model, analyze and process magnitude spectrograms given by the CWT. To realize this approach, we must be able to convert a ...
The Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) has been recently proposed to model f0 in the context of speech synthesis. It was shown that systems using signal decomposition with the CWT tend to outperform systems that model the signal directly. The f0 signal is typically decomposed into various scales of differing frequency. In these experiments, we reconstruct f0 with selected frequencies and ask na...
The Dixit entry/exit real option model was applied to the entry/exit decisions of New York dairy farmers. For the cost structure of a 500-cow farm the entry milk price is $17.52 per hundredweight (cwt.) and the exit milk price is $10.84. For the 50-cow farm cost structure the entry price is higher at $23.71 per cwt., and the exit price is also higher at $13.48. If infinite numbers of representa...
This study presents an original method to detect edges in Synthetic Aperture Radar images corrupted by speckle. We show that the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) allows to accurately detect edges embedded in speckle. Edges give rise to a conic signature in the CWT. Furthermore, the Signal t o Noise Ratio (SNR) increases with the scale of the CWT. The optimal wavelet maximizing the SNR is deri...
This paper introduces our recently designed 9/7– 10/8 dual-tree complex filter bank and studies its application in moving object detection and segmentation. The dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) is used in edge detection required for segmentation in video frames. The DT-CWT approach is compared with the previous methods based on scalar wavelets and multi-wavelets (MW), using double c...
Now a day’s Heart arrhythmia needs to be treated specially as it became a prime cause of death occurrence of people. Such number of death could be decrease by prediagnosis status of heart signals. This paper presents the new automated arrhythmias detection method. For identification of arrhythmia continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is used for feature extraction from ECG signal and the purpose o...
BACKGROUND Little is known about the health outcomes of clinician-supervised, performance-based, abstinence-contingent therapeutic work programs on homeless persons with addiction disorders. This study examined the effect of the Department of Veterans Affairs compensated work therapy program (CWT) on nonvocational outcomes. With mandatory urine screenings and adherence to addiction treatment sc...
[1] The variations of tropical upper tropospheric (UT) clouds with sea surface temperature (SST) are analyzed using effective cloud fraction from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) on Aqua and ice water content (IWC) from the Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) on Aura. The analyses are limited to UT clouds above 300 hPa. Our analyses do not suggest a negative correlation of tropical-mean UT clou...
The multiscale analysis of potential fields is a valid tool to study the source properties. Among multiscale methods, the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is well established due to its natural filtering properties. From the beginning the choice of the analyzing wavelet has been the set belonging to the Poisson kernel: within this framework the CWT can be easily performed by upward continuing...
OBJECTIVES Acute chest pain (ACP) is a leading cause of hospital emergency unit consultation. As there are various underlying conditions, ranging from musculoskeletal disorders to acute coronary syndrome (ACS), thorough clinical diagnostics are warranted. The aim of this prospective study was to assess whether reproducible chest wall tenderness (CWT) on palpation in patients with ACP can help t...
