A practical stereoselective synthesis of cytotoxic anhydrophytosphingosine pachastrissamine (jaspine B) was achieved in 48% overall yield from D-(-)-tartaric acid. Key features of the sequence include the diastereoselective formation of a tetrol with three contiguous chiral centers, which was further elaborated to pachastrissamine. The synthetic route is operationally simple, diastereoselective...

A highly fluorescent organogel with transparency was formed through a hydrogen (H)-bonding interaction between a non-fluorescent and achiral 2-(3',5'-bis-trifluoromethyl-biphenyl-4-yl)-3-(4-pyridin-4-yl-phenyl)-acrylonitrile (CN-TFMBPPE) monomer and chiral sergeant l-tartaric acid (TA) (or d-TA), with gel formation being accompanied by a drastic fluorescence enhancement as well as chirality ind...

The present paper deals with the development and validation of analytical method based on a single column high performance Ion chromatography with cation suppressed conductivity detection, developed for quantitation of tartaric acid. The diluent used for the preparation of sample solution was water and injected into a standard chromatographic system connected with 250mm length, 4.0 mm ID and 5....

Metyrapone, an inhibitor of steroid synthesis, affected the survival and rate of development of Heterodera glycines. Metyrapone in aqueous tartaric acid solvent influenced sex ratios. The effect on sex ratios was mediated through the host, whereas the effect on survival was apparently effected directly. Tartaric acid increased larval penetration of soybean roots.

Experiments with azoproteins containing stereo-chemical isomeric groups of d- and l-tartaric acid showed well marked specificity of the anaphylactic reaction to these antigens, in conformity with the results of precipitin tests. Shock in these animals could be prevented by injection of azodye containing the specific groups. This phenomenon is ascribed to a desensitization.

The structures of two compounds of L-tartaric acid with quinoline, viz. the proton-transfer compound quinolinium hydrogen (2R,3R)-tartrate monohydrate, C9H8N+.C4H5O6-.H2O, (I), and the anhydrous non-proton-transfer adduct with quinaldic acid, bis(quinolinium-2-carboxylate) (2R,3R)-tartaric acid, 2C10H7NO2.C4H6O6, (II), have been determined at 130 K. Compound (I) has a three-dimensional honeycom...

Phase selective, ultrahigh loading of nanoparticles into target domains of block copolymer composites was achieved by blending the block copolymer hosts with small molecule additives that exhibit strong interactions with one of the polymer chain segments and with the nanoparticle ligands via hydrogen bonding. The addition of D-tartaric acid to poly(ethylene oxide-block-tert-butyl acrylate) (PEO...

In the title compound, C(4)H(8)N(2)O(3)·C(4)H(6)O(6), the amino acid mol-ecule exists as a zwitterion and the carb-oxy-lic acid in an un-ionized state. The tartaric acid mol-ecules are linked into layers parallel to the ab plane by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The amino acid mol-ecules are also linked into layers parallel to the ab plane by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The alternating tartaric acid...
