For dielectric inhomogeneous objects, the perceived reflections are the linear combinations of diffuse and specular reflection components. Specular reflection plays an important role in the fields of image analysis, pattern recognition, and scene synthesis. Several methods for the separation of the diffuse and the specular reflection components have been presented based on image segmentation or...

We present a high resolution study of the specularity of the atomic reflection from an evanescent wave mirror using velocity selective Raman transitions. We observed a double structure in the velocity distribution after reflection: a peak consistent with specular reflection and a diffuse reflection pedestal whose contribution decreases rapidly with increasing detuning. The diffuse reflection is...

The color of model tablets deepened and tablet gloss increased with increase in compression pressure regardless of colorant type. The possible reasons for these phenomena were examined. These observations could not be explained either by polymorphic transition of the colorant or by condensation of the colorant during compression. Instead, a change in surface roughness was assumed to be the most...

The integrating sphere is a simple, yet often misunderstood spectrophotometer accessory for measuring optical radiation. The function of an integrating sphere is to spatially integrate radiant flux in scatter transmission and diffuse reflectance sample measurements. Before one can optimize a sphere design for a particular application, it is important to understand how the integrating sphere wor...

It is known that the region V (s) of a simple polygon P , directly visible (illuminable) from an internal point s, is simply connected. Aronov et al. [2] established that the region V1(s) of a simple polygon visible from an internal point s due to at most one diffuse reflection on the boundary of the polygon P , is also simply connected. In this paper we establish that the region V2(s), visible...

In this topic, we will deal with conditions that tend to 1) involve both the lungs diffusely, and 2) primarily produce abnormalities of the pulmonary parenchyma (as opposed to the airways and blood vessels, which are dealt with elsewhere). All diseases may be classified by anatomic, physiologic, and clinical schemes. In pathology, we tend to work from anatomic classifications in understanding t...

E-government aims to offer services the country’s' communities both in public or private sectors by using the ICT tools to reduce the cost and times by eradication of manifestations of routines and bureaucracy. All countries around the world are seeking to implement and diffuse egovernment services, especially the developing countries, and to do that they have to overcome a range of factors tha...

We propose a system for creating a photorealistic virtual model of an object. The shape of the object is obtained by a range sensor. Then, the diffuse and specular reflection components are separated from color images by using circular polarization filters. Finally, reflection parameters of each reflection component are estimated.
