In uniform multiprocessor platforms, the various processors comprising the multiprocessor platform may have different computing capacities. The focus of this paper is the design of efficient tests for determining whether the Earliest Deadline First Scheduling Algorithm (EDF) can successfully schedule a given real-time task system to meet all deadlines upon a specified uniform multiprocessor pla...

EDF is a classic dynamic embedded realtime multi-task scheduling algorithm. In an embedded soft real-time system, the deadline missing ratio is an important metric to evaluate system performance. When an embedded soft realtime system is overloaded, EDF algorithm is not effective. Considering the unsteadiness and unpredictability of a practical task running environment due to the unsteadiness of...

Earliest Deadline First (EDF) and Fixed Priority (FP) scheduling represent the two main dispatching policies within the research domain of real-time systems engineering. Both dispatching policies are now supported by Ada. In this paper the two approaches are combined to maximize the advantages of both schemes. From EDF comes efficiency, from FP predictability. A system model is presented in whi...

Each episode of fatty or sugary food consumption contributes to the pathophysiological alterations found in obesity. The present study estimated episodic frequency of energy-dense food (EDF) consumption in 348 adult women with excessive adiposity. Participants reported in open questions their habitual exercise and EDF consumption per week. Body fat percentage was measured using electric impedan...

This paper compares the behaviour of Earliest Deadline First (EDF) and Opportunistic-EDF (O-EDF) with that of Round Robin, Proportional Fair Throughput (PFT), and Maximum Carrier to Interference ratio (MaxC/I) . Video, voice and web traffic are transmitted through an HSDPA air interface. The resultant queueing delay and fairness are measured and compared for each scheduler.

WiMAX, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a developing wireless communication scheme that can provide broadband access to large-scale coverage. WiMAX belongs to the family of standards of IEEE-802.16. To satisfy user demands and support a new set of real time services and applications, a realistic and dynamic resource allocation algorithm is mandatory. One of the most efficient...

With the development of cloud computing, mobile device and industry automation, virtualization plays an important role today. The core of virtualization is hypervisor which directly determines the performance of platform. Therefore, how to allocate resource effectively becomes an important issue. Xen, one of widely used open source projects, is a virtual machine monitor. Simple EDF (Earliest De...

Abstract— The provision of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of end-to-end delay guarantees to real-time applications is an important issue in emerging broadband packet networks. Of the various packet scheduling schemes that have been proposed in the literature, Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling in conjunction with per-hop traffic shaping (jointly referred to as Rate-Controlled EDF or RC...

Packet networks are currently enabling the integration of traffic with a wide range of characteristics that extend from video traffic with stringent QoS requirements to the best-effort traffic requiring no guarantees. QoS guarantees can be provided in conventional packet networks by the use of proper packet scheduling algorithms. As a computer revolution, many scheduling algorithms have been pr...

The most important requirement for real-time systems is the capability to support the timely execution of applications. Real-time scheduling over a single processor has been widely studied in the last thirty years, and it has been proven that the non-preemptive version of Earliest Deadline First (EDF) algorithm is optimal [1], in the sense that if a set of tasks is schedulable, it is also sched...
