Hydroxyproline-containing proteins increase markedly in the cell walls of the Alaska pea epicotyl during the transition of rapidly elongating tissue into non-elongating, mature tissue. The increase in these proteins may be a factor in the cessation of cell elongation.

Cotyledons of light-grown soybean (Glycine max L. var Wayne) seedlings were used as a model system to study the possibility that aging requires qualitative changes in protein synthesis. Cotyledons reached a final stage of senescence and then abscised about 22 days after imbibition. Cotyledon senescence was reversed at 20 days after germination by epicotyl removal. Thereafter, the cotyledons reg...

Quantification of the flavonoids in yellow lupin (Lupinus luteus; Leguminosae) seedlings revealed that a flavone glucoside, 7-O-beta-(2-O-beta-rhamnosyl)glucosyl-4',5,7-trihydroxyflavone (apigenine 7-O-beta-neohesperidoside), is rich in the epicotyl and cotyledon. In hypocotyls and roots, 8-C-beta-glucosyl-4',5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone (genistein 8-C-beta-glucoside) was a predominant flavonoid co...

A poly(A)-binding protein (PABP) with mol wt 29,000 has been purified from chickpea (Cicer arietinum) epicotyl by ammonium sulfate fractionation and Cibacron blue F3-GA chromatography, making a complex with poly(A) and elution of PABP-poly(A) complex at 45 degrees C from oligo d(T)-cellulose. The elution pattern and binding properties show that the purified protein is different from the PABP (m...
