Nine Clostridium perfringens strains were isolated from fifteen intestinal content samples collected from commercial broilers which suffered from necrotic enteritis NE. Molecular typing of C. perfringens was performed by PCR using three sets of primers specific for toxin -producing genes of C. perfringens [alpha (900bp), beta (236bp) and epsilon (541bp)]. Six strains of C. perfringens type A an...

Pore-forming toxins (PFTs) represent the largest known group of bacterial protein toxins to date. Membrane insertion and subsequent pore-formation occurs after initial binding to cell-surface receptor and oligomerization. Aerolysin, a toxin produced by the Gram-negative bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila and related species, belongs to the PFT group and shares a common mechanism of action involving...

Clostridium perfringens epsilon toxin (ETX) is the third most lethal bacterial and has been suggested to be an environmental trigger of multiple sclerosis, immune-mediated disease human central nervous system. However, ETX cytotoxicity on primary cells not investigated. In this article, we demonstrate that preferentially binds kills lymphocytes expressing increased levels myelin lymphocyte prot...

Clostridium perfringens strains (type A) isolated from an integrated poultry operation were subtyped using repetitive-element PCR with Dt primers. Isolates were obtained from fecal, egg shell, fluff, and carcass rinse samples as part of a previously reported temporally linked epidemiological survey. A total of 48 isolates of C. perfringens were obtained from different stages of the broiler chic...

conclusions obtained data demonstrated that the designed assay is an accurate, easy, rapid, and cost-effective tool for detecting v. cholerae that can serve as an alternate to current bacteriological tests. background several epidemic and endemic cases have been reported involving vibrio cholerae (v. cholerae) as a causative organism in serious diarrheal diseases with high mortality. hence, qui...

Clostridium perfringens is a prolific, toxin-producing anaerobe causing multiple diseases in humans and animals. One of these toxins is epsilon, a 33 kDa protein produced by Clostridium perfringens (types B and D) that induces fatal enteric disease of goats, sheep and cattle. Epsilon toxin (Etx) belongs to the aerolysin-like toxin family. It contains three distinct domains, is proteolytically-a...

The epsilon toxin, produced by Clostridium perfringens, is responsible for enterotoxemia in ruminants and is a potential bioterrorism agent. In the present study, 15 regions of the toxin were recognized by antibodies present in the serum, with different immunodominance scales, and may be antigen determinants that can be used to formulate subunit vaccines.

abrin known as ribosome inactivating protein’s (rip) it is a high cytotoxic plant protein. high lethality and low cost and easy access to plant and seeds lead to this toxin used in crimes and terrorist acts. because obtaining purified toxins requires advanced laboratory equipment and complex procedures, so, it appears that the perpetrators of such crimes use crude extracts. as a result, remaini...
