The potential gains of deploying sensor networks for large scale applications are being realized. One of the basic operations in sensor networks is in-network aggregation. Among the various approaches to in-network aggregation, such as gossip and tree, including the hash-based techniques, the tree-based approaches have better performance and energy-saving characteristics. However, sensor networ...

This paper presents a method to include safety system conflicts into a fault tree analysis (FTA) with semantic extensions of fault events. The verification of the incoherent fault tree is done with an SMT-Solver. As an example a networked setup of medical devices for extracorporeal lung assist was analyzed. The method is developed as a basis for improved safety analysis of networked systems.

Introduction: LPG storage tanks contain of large volumes of flammable and pressurized gases. Release of these fluids can lead to disastrous accidents such BLEVE, fiery explosion. Therefore, identifying the causes, consequences, probabilities and scenarios of accidents using Bowtie technique, that is combination of Fault Tree Analyses (FTA) and Event Tree Analyses (ETA), is imperative and the pu...

There is recently an interest in test generation for reversible circuits, but nothing has been published about fault localization in such circuits. This paper deals with fault localization for binary reversible (permutative) circuits. We concentrate on functional test based fault localization, to detect and locate “stuck-at” faults in a reversible circuit by creating an adaptive tree. A strikin...

This paper presents a case study on how Korat can be used in system testing, specifically in testing a large fault-tree analyzer developed for NASA. A fault-tree analyzer takes as input a fault tree that models how combinations of failures in the components of a system produce overall failures of the system. Testing a fault-tree analyzer requires generating fault trees. Korat is a previously de...

This paper considers a technique for calculating the unconditional failure intensity of any given non-coherent fault tree. Conventional Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) techniques involve the evaluation of lengthy series expansions and approximations are unavoidable even for moderate sized fault trees. The Binary Decision Diagram (BDD) technique overcomes some of the shortfalls of conventional FTA tec...

Fault tree analysis is often used to assess risks within industrial systems. The technique is commonly used although there are associated limitations in terms of accuracy and efficiency when dealing with large fault tree structures. The most recent approach to aid the analysis of the fault tree diagram is the Binary Decision Diagram (BDD) methodology. To utilise the technique the fault tree str...

In this work an automatic fault classification system is developed for bearing fault classification of three phase induction motor. The system uses the wavelet packet decomposition using ‘db8’ mother wavelet function for feature extraction from the vibration signal, recorded for various bearing fault conditions. The selection of best node of wavelet packet tree is performed by using best tree a...
