The massless Schwinger model without the kinetic term of gauge field has gauge anomaly. We quantize the model as an anomalous gauge theory in the most general class of gauge conditions. We show that the gauge field becomes a dynamical variable because of gauge anomaly.

The supersymmetric effective action is constructed which when varied _ under gauge groups containing explicit U(1) factors reproduces the mixed gauge field contribution to the SU(N) anomaly while being U(1) invariant. We investigate theoretically the effects of a dynamically increasing medium index on optical-wave propagation in a rubidium condensate.
