We introduce a new kinematic model describing the motion of the human forearm bones, ulna and radius, during forearm rotation. During this motion between the two forearm extrem-positions, referred to as supination (palm up) and pronation (palm down), effects occur, that cannot be explained by the the established kinematic model of R. Fick from 1904. Especially, the motion of the ulna is not pro...

The relative role of protein synthesis and degradation in determining postprandial net protein deposition in human muscle is not known. To this aim, we studied forearm leucine and phenylalanine turnover by combining the arteriovenous catheterization with tracer infusions, before and following a 4 h administration of a mixed meal in normal volunteers. Forearm amino acid kinetics were assessed in...

BACKGROUND Treatment of forearm fracture nonunion is challenging. Several surgical techniques for the treatment of forearm nonunion have been reported. OBJECTIVES The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the effects of the radial forearm bone graft technique in cases with forearm nonunion. PATIENTS AND METHODS We treated 7 patients with forearm nonunions via radial forearm bone fla...

conclusions pedicled pibf is a new option for treating distal radius fracture non:union:. the results are predictable in achieving :union: and good function, and this technique can be successfully used in cases with extensive soft-tissue damage or infection. background non:union: of distal radius fractures is disabling. treatment is difficult and the results are not predictable. however, poster...

Introduction: Plastic deformation of long bones can occur at any age, but is several times more common in children than in adults. This situation in adults is so rare that even a single case can be reported. The cause of the lower incidence in adults is the larger mineral content of adult bones relative to water with smaller haversian canals in comparison to children. Case report: Here we rep...

In order to evaluate the reflex peripheral vascular effects of coronary arteriography, forearm blood flow was measured plethysmographically and forearm vascular resistance calculated before and during coronary angiography with Hypaque-M, 75%, and Renografin-76. The injection of Hypaque into the left coronary artery resulted in a forearm vasodilation which could not be duplicated by an injection...

This study examined the effects of sublingually administered nitroglycerin on forearm resistance vessels in normal subjects (n = 9) and in patients with congestive heart failure (n = 8). Forearm blood flow was measured with a strain-gauge plethysmograph and forearm vascular resistance was calculated. To assess the magnitude of reflex forearm vasoconstriction triggered by decreased central venou...

AIMS To determine the occurrence of pain conditions and disorders in the forearm and to evaluate risk factors for forearm pain in a cohort of computer workers. METHODS A total of 6943 participants with a wide range of computer use and work tasks were studied. At baseline and at one year follow up participants completed a questionnaire. Participants with relevant forearm symptoms were offered ...

Although angina pectoris in patients with coronary heart disease often occurs when their forearms are in an elevated position for a prolonged period, and sympathetic activation is a major cause of this condition, little is known about the physiological effects of forearm elevation on sympathetic activity during forearm exercise. We hypothesized that forearm elevation augments sympathetic activa...

One-bone forearm functions best when the proximal ulna and distal radius are present and joined (the ulnius). Six open forearm fractures accompanied by segmental radial defect were treated by the ulnius formation in a one-stage procedure. All patients had a stable and pain-free forearm, and were satisfied with the function and cosmetic appearance of the forearm.
