Introduction: Gluteal to tensor index indicates the electrical activition ratio of gluteal to tensor fasciae latae muscles, that the normalized electrical activity is used. The role of hip muscles in improving function and preventing injury is also considerable in the rehabilitation process of injury in patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain. This study aimed to compare the effect of c...

A total of 2,305 consecutive newborns at Shariati Hospital, Tehran, Iran, and 1,706 at Lolagar Hospital, Tehran, Iran, were examined for 2 years (2004-2006). Mongolian spots were found in 11.4% and 37.3% of newborns at Shariati and Lolagar hospitals, respectively. The most frequent site of involvement is the sacral, followed by the gluteal area.

Variations in the course of the inferior gluteal nerve and artery were observed in Japanese cases (4/94 sides). In these variation cases, the inferior gluteal nerve exited the pelvis from the upper edge of the piriformis (suprapiriformis foramen) in 4/4 sides (4.26%). In 2/4 sides (2.13%), the normal inferior gluteal artery was not observed, except that a fine artery exited the pelvis from the ...

Superior gluteal nerve emerges through the greater sciatic foramen above the piriformis muscle. The nerve curves upwards and forwards between the gluteus medius and minimus muscles, supplies both of them and ends by supplying the tensor fasciae latae muscle, from its deep surface. During hip surgeries, this nerve often gets injured resulting in complications. An exact knowledge of its course is...

Intramuscular drug injection in the gluteal region is often the most frequent cause of sciatic nerve injury in preterm newborns. Local anatomic variation is one of the predisposing causes of iatrogenic sciatic nerve injury. The aim of this morphological study was to assess the relationship of sciatic nerve with the piriformis muscle and to elucidate variations of fusion of piriformis with neigh...

INTRODUCTION Lateral meningocele is a very rare disorder. It has been reported in patients with neurofibromatosis or Marfan's syndrome. Previous reports have described lateral meningoceles in the thoracic or cervical region. Lateral meningocele in the sacral area was reported in the literature only once. CASE PRESENTATION We describe a 3.5-year-old Iranian girl who presented with a lateral gl...

Gluteal compartment syndrome is an uncommon and rare disease. Most reasonable causes for the development of this disease are trauma, drug induced coma, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, sickle cell associated muscle infarction, incorrect positioning during surgical procedures and prolonged pressure in patients with altered consciousness levels. The diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion, especially...

[Purpose] We assessed the effects of a suspension seat support chair on the trunk flexion angle and gluteal pressure during computer work. [Subjects] Ten males were recruited. [Methods] The suspension seat support was developed to prevent abnormal gluteal pressure and a slumped sitting posture during computer work. The gluteal pressure was measured with a TekScan system and the trunk flexion an...

BACKGROUND Involuntary movements of gluteal muscles have rarely been reported. CASE REPORT This 46-year-old female with pelvic endometriosis developed involuntary rhythmic movements in the left gluteus maximus, which within a year became bilateral. The movements gradually increased in intensity and interfered with ambulation. Electromyography, at rest, demonstrated almost continuous periodic ...

OBJECTIVE To determine whether autologously transferred human adipose tissue maintains viability in vivo for prolonged periods. DESIGN Six healthy female patients (mean age, 61.5 years; mean body mass index, 23.4 kg/m2) received autologous fat transplants from the gluteus to the nasolabial folds. Subcutaneous fat was sampled from facial and gluteal sites 4 times in 1 year. SETTING Private p...
