A novel bath lily-like graphene sheet-wrapped nano-Si composite synthesized via a simple spray drying process exhibits a high reversible capacity of 1525 mAh g(-1) and superior cycling stability, which could be attributed to a synergistic effect between highly conductive graphene sheets and active nanoparticles in the open nano/micro-structure."

We propose two coupled electron-hole sheets of few-layer graphene as a new nanostructure to observe superfluidity at enhanced densities and enhanced transition temperatures. For ABC stacked few-layer graphene we show that the strongly correlated electron-hole pairing regime is readily accessible experimentally using current technologies. We find for double trilayer and quadlayer graphene sheets...

We report a new, simple, hydrazine-free, high-yield method for producing single-layer graphene sheets. Graphene sheets were formed from graphite oxide by reduction with simple deionized water at 95 °C under atmospheric pressure. Over 65% of the sheets are single graphene layers; the average sheet diameter is 300 nm. We speculate that dehydration of graphene oxide is the main mechanism for oxyge...

Reduced graphene oxides with varying degrees of reduction have been produced by hydrazine reduction of graphene oxide. The linear and nonlinear optical properties of both graphene oxide as well as the reduced graphene oxides have been measured by single beam Z-scan measurement in the picosecond region. The results reveal both saturable absorption and two-photon absorption, strongly dependent on...

Graphene-based nano-objects such as nanotrenches, nanowires, nanobelts and nanoscale superstructures have been grown by surface segregation and precipitation on carbon-doped mono- and polycrystalline nickel substrates in ultrahigh vacuum. The dominant morphologies of the nano-objects were nanowire and nanosheet. Nucleation of graphene sheets occurred at surface defects such as step edges and re...

Graphene oxide (GO) can be considered as one of the most visible outcomes of graphene research in terms of large scale production and commercialization prospects. Although GO can be easily prepared by oxidation-exfoliation of graphite in agitated solutions, the size of these sheets is generally limited due to fragmentation along fault lines during chemical oxidation and exfoliation in agitated ...

Three-dimensional graphene (3DG) sponge has attracted increasing attention because it 10 combines the unique properties of cellular materials and the excellent performance of graphene. 11 The preparation of 3DG sponge depends mainly on the self-assembly of graphene oxide sheets. 12 Here, we demonstrate facile fabrication of 3DG sponge with a large-scale and ordered porous 13 structure, exploiti...

Natural nacre, which consists of almost 95 vol% inorganic content (calcium carbonate) and 5 vol% elastic biopolymers, possesses a unique combination of remarkable strength and toughness, which is attributed to its hierarchical nano-/ microscale structure and precise inorganic–organic interface. Inspired by the intrinsic relationship between the structures and the mechanical properties lying in ...

Fe(2+) cations in FeCl(2) or FeSO(4) were oxidized by graphene oxide, leading to an in situ deposition of Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles onto the self-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets. The resultant Fe(3)O(4)/rGO sheets were demonstrated to possess interesting magnetic and electrochemical properties attractive for a large variety of potential applications.
