The application of DNA-based hybrid catalysts for enantioselective synthesis has recently emerged. These catalysts, self-assembled from DNA and a metal complex with a specific ligand through supramolecular or covalent anchoring strategies, have demonstrated high enantioselectivity in a variety of carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond-forming reactions and have expanded their role in asymmetri...
With the massive consumption of fossil fuels and its detrimental impact on the environment, methods of generating clean power are urgent. Hydrogen is an ideal carrier for renewable energy; however, hydrogen generation is inefficient because of the lack of robust catalysts that are substantially cheaper than platinum. Therefore, robust and durable earth-abundant and cost-effective catalysts are ...
Although numerous reports on nonprecious metal catalysts for replacing expensive Pt-based catalysts have been published, few of these studies have demonstrated their practical application in fuel cells. In this work, we report graphitic carbon nitride and carbon nanofiber hybrid materials synthesized by a facile and gram-scale method via liquid-based reactions, without the use of toxic material...
The design of cheap and efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts is of a significant importance in sustainable and renewable energy technologies. Therefore, ORR catalysts with superb electrocatalytic activity and durability are becoming a necessity but still remain challenging. Herein, we report C/NiCo₂O₄ nanocomposite fibers fabricated by a straightforward electrospinning tec...
The control over both the dispersion and the particle size distribution of supported precious metal nanoparticles used in heterogeneous catalysts is of paramount importance. Here, we demonstrate the successful formation of highly accessible and well dispersed gold−palladium nanoparticles, stabilized with two-dimensional graphene oxide, that itself is dispersed by intercalated titania particles ...
Advanced materials for electrocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting are central to the area of renewable energy. In this work, we developed a selective solvothermal synthesis of MoS(2) nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets suspended in solution. The resulting MoS(2)/RGO hybrid material possessed nanoscopic few-layer MoS(2) structures with an abundance of exposed edge...
The DNA G-quadruplex-binding porphyrin TMPyP4·Cu was found to form efficient hybrid catalysts for DNA-based asymmetric catalysis when bound to DNA G-quadruplexes. Nucleobase substitution experiments using human telomere-derived G-quadruplex sequences suggest binding of the porphyrin on the 3'-face.
We demonstrate the first example of silicon nanowire array photocathodes coupled with hollow spheres of the emerging earth-abundant cobalt phosphide catalysts. Compared to bare silicon nanowire arrays, the hybrid electrodes exhibit significantly improved photoelectrochemical performance toward the solar-driven H2 evolution reaction.
We present a straightforward, environmentally-benign, one-pot photochemical route to generate alloyed AgAu bimetallic nanoparticle decorated aminoclays in water at room temperature. The protocol uses no reducing agent (e.g., NaBH4) nor is photocatalyst required. These hybrid materials show excellent promise as dual catalysts/antibacterial agents.
