Human toxocariasis is a helminthic zoonosis caused by larval stages of Toxocara canis and, less frequently, by T. cati, the roundworms of dogs and cats, respectively. Accidentally, humans ingest embryonated eggs containing the infective larva which are released in the upper small intestine and then pass through the intestinal epithelium to reach the blood vessels, where they can migrate to the ...
MEMBRANE FRACTIONS FROM Strongyloides venezuelensis IN THE IMMUNODIAGNOSIS OF HUMAN STRONGYLOIDIASIS
Strongyloides venezuelensis is a parasitic nematode of rodents frequently used to obtain heterologous antigens for the immunological diagnosis of human strongyloidiasis. The aim of this study was to evaluate membrane fractions from S. venezuelensis for human strongyloidiasis immunodiagnosis. Soluble and membrane fractions were obtained in phosphate saline (SS and SM) and Tris-HCl (TS and TM) fr...
To assess the performance of the immunochromatographic test for filariasis, adult Wuchereria bancrofti worms were incubated under different conditions. The tests were strongly positive with incubation fluids from both living and mechanically damaged females. Negative results were observed with incubation fluids from all male worms and from intact dead females. Key-words: Wuchereria bancrofti. A...
Optimizing conditions for the microarraying of protein antigens onto glass slides were studied. Various vendors, surface functional groups, buffers, and fixatives were evaluated to enhance protein binding. A total of 125 pg of human immunoglobulin was detectable with this assay system, suggesting that protein microarray can be applied for routine immunodiagnosis.
