A case of claustrophobia in a 45-year old male tuberculous in-patient receiving antituberculous drug is reported. The patient presented with the clinical features of claustrophobia after eighteen months of therapy. Isoniazid was, probably, the most likely cause since. The symptoms recurred on reintroduction of INH containing regimens. There was no recurrence of symptoms on resumption of non-Iso...

The enoyl-ACP reductase enzyme (InhA) from M. tuberculosis is recognized as the primary target of isoniazid (INH), a first-line antibiotic for tuberculosis treatment. To identify the specific interactions of INH-NAD adduct and its derivative adducts in InhA binding pocket, molecular docking calculations and quantum chemical calculations were performed on a set of INH derivative adducts. Reliabl...

Isoniazid (INH) is one of the primary drugs used in tuberculosis treatment and its encapsulation liposomal vesicles can both improve therapeutic index minimize toxicity. Here we consider mixtures hydrogenated soy phosphatidylcholine-phosphatidylglycerol (HSPC–DPPG) to get novel biocompatible liposomes for INH delivery. We determined efficiency by coupling first time UV Laser Transmission Spectr...

AccD6 (acetyl coenzyme A (CoA) carboxylase), plays an important role in mycolic acid synthesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Induced gene expression by isoniazid (isonicotinylhydrazine - INH), anti-tuberculosis drug) shows the expression of accD6. It is our interest to study the binding of activated INH with the AccD6 model using molecular docking procedures. The study predicts a primary...

A mutation (CCG-->CTG [Arg-->Leu]) in codon 463 of katG (catalase peroxidase) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis has been found in isoniazid (INH)-resistant strains. A PCR restriction endonuclease analysis to detect this mutation was applied to 395 M. tuberculosis isolates from patients in The Netherlands. The proportion of isolates with a detectable mutation was 32% (32 out of 100) and 29% (85 out ...

We evaluated the accuracy of a point-of-care test designed to measure adherence to isoniazid (INH) preventive therapy in a hospital setting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Patients on treatment with daily INH and patients not receiving INH were included. Sensitivity and specificity of the test were 84%/98% at the first minute, and 95%/98% at the fifth minute, respectively. Among smokers, sensitivity...

Isoniazid (INH) is an integral component of treatment of tuberculosis. An acute overdose is potentially fatal and is characterized by the clinical triad of repetitive seizures unresponsive to the usual anticonvulsants, metabolic acidosis with a high anion gap and coma. The diagnosis of INH overdose should be considered in any patient who presents to emergency medical services (EMS) with the tri...

We report isoniazid (INH) induced tics in one male patient on hemodialysis at end-stage renal failure. He had pulmonary tuberculosis, accepted isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, pyrazinamide and rifampicin. He developed tics on both sides of the face. Surprisingly, he was also found the bilateral symmetrical frontal lobe and dentate nucleus hyperintensities on T2-weighted and T2 FLAIR MR imaging....

The present study describes the application of simultaneous kinetic spectrophotometric determination of hydrazine (HZ) and isoniazid (INH), using H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) and partial least squares (PLS) calibration. The methods are based on the difference observed in the rate of iron (III) reduction with HZ and INH, in the presence of 2,2'-bipyridine (Bpy) and the subsequent com...

Optic nerve involvement is a rare side effect of isoniazid (INH) and has not been described in children. We describe this adverse reaction in a 10-year-old boy, who was treated for tuberculous meningitis. The patient showed almost complete resolution following withdrawal of INH and administration of pyridoxine and steroids.
