Carbapenem resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae, frequently conferred by the blaKPC gene, is a major public health threat. We sequenced a blaKPC-containing strain of K. pneumoniae belonging to the emergent lineage ST941, in order to better understand the evolution of blaKPC within this species.
Multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli isolates harboring New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM-1) were isolated from a patient who had returned to Canada from India. The NDM-1 gene was found on closely related incompatibility group A/C type plasmids. The occurrence of NDM-1 in North America is a major public health concern.
Hypervirulent strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae are associated with abscess formation, commonly hepatic, and metastatic spread, even in healthy patients. We describe a case of this clinical syndrome, genotypic and phenotypic features of the isolate, and briefly review epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and pathogenesis of this underappreciated syndrome.
KPC-2-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates mainly correspond to clonal complex 258 (CC258); however, we describe KPC-2-producing K. pneumoniae isolates belonging to invasive sequence type 23 (ST23). KPC-2 has scarcely been reported to occur in ST23, and this report describes the first isolation of this pathogen in the Americas. Acquisition of resistant markers in virulent clones could mark ...

The Klebsiella pneumoniae phages SopranoGao, MezzoGao, and AltoGao were isolated from the Seneca Wastewater Treatment Plant in Germantown, MD. The following reports the complete genome sequence of these bacteriophages and describes their major features.
Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) levels are consistently elevated in patients with severe pneumonia and sepsis and highly predictive for an unfavorable outcome. In addition, pneumonia is associated with strongly elevated PAI-1 levels in the pulmonary compartment. However, whether PAI-1 causally affects antibacterial host defense in vivo remains unknown. We report here that pneumon...
Background and Aims: Recently it has been proved that some of Enterobacteriacea like Klebsiella pneumoniae, which carry PKS islands, damage dsDNA by encoding Colibactin genotoxin; and finally they induce some apoptosis in damaged mucosal cells. This study aimed to isolating the clbN and clbB genes, which are the markers of the PKS genomic island, from PKS cluster in these bacteria Materials ...
Klebsiella pneumoniae (associated with bacterial pneumonia) was previously isolated from Nezara viridula, a significant vector of cotton boll-rot pathogens. We provide the first annotated genome sequence of the cotton opportunistic strain K. pneumoniae 5-1. This data provides guidance to study the bases of cotton pathogenesis by bacteria associated with vectors.
