The lipase producing bacteria were screened from the soil both qualitatively by Tween 80, rhodamine B agar assays and quantitatively by titrimetry with the objective of finding a bacterial strain capable of producing an alkaline lipase. The higher lipolytic activity of 17.43 U/ml was recorded for the isolate L13. Traditional methods viz. morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics w...

Concentration-based thresholds for horizontal mergers, such as those in the US Horizontal Merger Guidelines, play a central role merger analysis but their basis remains unclear. We show that there is both theoretical and an empirical focusing solely on change concentration, ignoring its level, screening mergers whether unilateral price effects will harm consumers. also argue current threshold l...

American industries have grown more concentrated over the last 40 years. In absence of productivity innovation, this should lead to price hikes and output reductions, decreasing consumer welfare. With US census data from 1972 2012, I use disentangle revenue output. Industry-level estimates show that concentration increases are positively correlated real growth, uncorrelated with changes overall...

The proteins of the large subunit of rat liver ribosomes were separated into seven groups by stepwise elution from carboxymethylcellulose with LiCl at pH 6.5. Seventeen proteins (L4, L5, Li’, L9, Lll, L12, L13, L21, L22, L23, L26, L27, L30, L33, L35’, L37, and L39) were isolated from three of the groups (B60, D60, G60) by ion exchange chromatography on carboxymethylcellulose and by filtration t...

We examine the role low-price guarantees allegedly play in supporting supracompetitive prices. We find that when firms can commit to matching or beating any lower price announced by a competitor, all Nash equilibria yield Bertrand selling prices. This result casts doubt on the robustness of the conclusions of models which restrict attention to meet-the-competition clauses only. JEL Classificati...

We analyze an oligopoly where public and private firms compete in quantity and R&D. Using general functions, we show that an output subsidy and an R&D tax can achieve the first-best allocation. Moreover, the degree of privatization does not influence the optimal output subsidy but does influence the optimal R&D tax. JEL Classification: H42; L13; L32;

We modify the vertically differentiated duopoly model by André et al. (2009) replacing Bertrand with Cournot behaviour to show that firms may spontaneously adopt a green technology even in the complete absence of any form of regulation. JEL codes: L13, L51, Q55, Q58
