latticed columns are frequently used in industrial steel structures. in some countries these built-up columns might be even used in other types of steel structures such as residential and commercial buildings. besides, latticed columns are parts of skeletons of many historic buildings all around the world. to analyze a steel structure with latticed columns a more accurate numerical model for su...

this work presents a numerical analysis of entropy generation in γ-shaped enclosure that was submitted to the natural convection process using a simple thermal lattice boltzmann method (tlbm) with the boussinesq approximation.  a 2d thermal lattice boltzmann method with 9 velocities, d2q9, is used to solve the thermal flow problem. the simulations are performed at a constant prandtl number (pr ...

In this work we investigated the critical properties of the anti-ferromagnetic XY model on a two dimensional Kagome lattice under single-ion easy-axes anisotropy. Employing the mean field theory, we found that this model shows a second order phase transition from disordered to all-in all-out state for any value of anisotropy.

We propose a new method that by using the lattice Schrödinger functional allows to investigate the effective action for external background fields in lattice gauge theories. We show that this method gives sensible results for the case of four-dimensional U(1) gauge theory in an external constant magnetic field.

A summary of some recent results from lattice simulations is presented. These include first calculations of the strangeness magnetic moment of the nucleon, three new studies of the gluon propagator, flux tube attraction in U (1) gauge theory, and the static-quark potential and its gluonic excitations.

We consider posets of lattice paths (endowed with a natural order) and begin the study of such structures. We give an algebraic condition to recognize which ones of these posets are lattices. Next we study the class of Dyck lattices (i.e., lattices of Dyck paths) and give a recursive construction for them. The last section is devoted to the presentation of a couple of open problems.

Lattice QCD is the only non-perturbative method based uniquely on the first principles of QCD. After a very simple introduction to the principles of lattice QCD, I discuss its present limitations and the type of processes it can deal with. Then I present some striking results in the light and heavy quarks sectors. Finally I try to guess the prospects.

Lanthanum (La) doped Ceria (CeO2) has attracted considerable interest as a candidate material for thermal barrier coating (TBC) because of its low thermal conductivity and potential capability to be operated above 1250°C. In this study, La2Ce2O7 powder was synthesized through the ball mill method. The crystal structure of La3+ su...

We present a construction of symmetry plane-groups for quasiperiodic point-sets in the plane, named beta-lattices. The algebraic framework is issued from counting systems called beta-integers, determined by Pisot-Vijayaraghavan (PV) algebraic integers β > 1. The beta-integer sets can be equipped with abelian group structures and internal multiplicative laws. These arithmetic structures lead to ...

Finite size effects on the calorimetric cooperatity of the folding-unfolding transition in two-state proteins are considered using the Go lattice models with and without side chains. We show that for models without side chains a dimensionless measure of calorimetric cooperativity κ2 defined as the ratio of the van’t Hoff to calorimetric enthalpy does not depend on the number of amino acids N . ...
