The simple condensation reaction of 3,5-di-tert-butyl salicylaldehyde and 3-aminophenylboronic acid leads to a trimeric macrocyclic compound. The ability of this molecule to include small organic molecules was in a first approximation analyzed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.

[reaction: see text] The nonaldol aldol process developed in our laboratories has been applied to the synthesis of a C(1)-C(11) fragment 22 of the novel macrocyclic cytotoxic agents tedanolide and 13-deoxytedanolide 1 and 2. The commercially available hydroxy ester 7 was converted in 24 steps into compound 22 using two nonaldol aldol reactions.

A dual-templated approach for the controllable synthesis of metal cluster complexes is described. By using an acetylide-containing anion with specific geometry as a central template and a macrocyclic coordinative compound as a peripheral one, two multinuclear silver-acetylide cluster-encapsulated supramolecular boxes were synthesized.

In the title compound, C(16)H(34)N(4) (2+)·2Cl(-)·3H(2)O, the two protonated N atoms in the macrocyclic ring of the dication are located at diagonally opposite positions. There are two intramolecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds in the cation. The crystal structure features O-H⋯Cl, O-H⋯O, C-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

The macrocyclic tetradentate Ni(II) compound was obtained in a reaction and determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure shows that the molecule is centrosymmetric, and Ni atom located in a square planar coordination environment. The two [(iPrO)2PS2]- anions are outside the macrocycle complex to balance. The Ni-N bond lengths are in the range of 1.906(2) to 1.950(2)A.

A siderophore, named bisucaberin B, was isolated from Tenacibaculum mesophilum bacteria separated from a marine sponge collected in the Republic of Palau.
