Here we present a hybrid approach to functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution, exploring a non-covalent binding strategy. We focus on formation of hybrid complexes consisting of carbon nanotubes decorated by single stranded DNA, non-covalently attached using surfactants as intermediate layers. Unlike single walled carbon nanotubes, revealing easy side wall wrapping of DNA...

We study by density functional and large scale tight-binding transport calculations the electronic structure, magnetism and transport properties of the recently proposed graphene ribbons with edges rolled to form nanotubes. Edges with armchair nanotubes present magnetic moments localized either in the tube or the ribbon and metallic or half-metallic character, depending on the symmetry of the j...

Background and Objective: Surfactants can be found in soaps, detergents, pharmaceutical products, personal care products, as well as in leather industries. In this study, adsorption of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes in the aqueous solutions was investigated. Materials and methods: Surfactant concentration, adsorbent dosage, and pH values were considere...

Magnetic inducing hyperthermia (MIH) is gaining great popularity due to its good targeted therapy and less side effects. Magnetic agents play a crucial role in this technique. As novel candidates, recently, carbon nanotubes/iron oxide nanoparticles composites have demonstrated great potential in MIH by combining the unique characteristics of carbon nanotubes with the excellent magnetic properti...

Sonication with nucleic acids has become a standard method for obtaining aqueous dispersions of carbon nanotubes. On the basis of theoretical studies and scanning probe microscopy (SPM) imaging a widely accepted model for DNA association with SWCNT is one in which the DNA binds through non-covalent p-stacking and hydrophobic interactions. Following the standard procedures established by others ...

This study reports the fabrication of magnetic copper silicate hierarchical hollow nanotubes, which are featured by a tailored complex wall structure and high surface area. Moreover, they exhibit excellent performance as an easily recycled adsorbent for protein separation. Particularly, this strategy can be extended as a general method to prepare other magnetic metal silicate hollow nanotubes.

boron nitride semiconducting zigzag swcnt, $b_{cb}$$n_{cn}$$c_{1-cb-cn}$, as a potential candidate for making nanoelectronic devices was examined. in contrast to the previous dft calculations, wherein just one boron and nitrogen doping configuration have been considered, here for the average over all possible configurations, density of states (dos) was calculated in terms of boron and nitrogen ...

Recent experimental and theoretical work has focused on ferromagnetic nanotubes due to their potential applications as magnetic sensors or as elements in high-density magnetic memory. The possible presence of magnetic vortex states-states which produce no stray fields-makes these structures particularly promising as storage devices. Here we investigate the behavior of the magnetization states i...

We present here the use of amino-terminated DNA strands in functionalizing the open ends and defect sites of oxidatively prepared single-walled carbon nanotubes, an important first step in realizing a DNA-guided self-assembly process for carbon nanotubes.
