The soil-rock mixture is widely distributed in nature, and the mechanical properties of it a key concern geotechnical engineering field. response can be obtained using numerical approaches. As precondition for numeric simulation, mesostructure indispensable. random rock packing main step construction mesostructure. classical trial method are inefficient when area fraction high. In this paper, a multiscale approach to capture the behaviour of material layers that possess a micromorphic mesostructure is presented. To this end, we seek to obtain a macroscopic traction-separation law based on the underlying meso and microstructure. At the macro level, a cohesive interface description is used, whereas the underlying mesostructure is resolved as a micromorphic representativ...

We demonstrate here the ordering of block copolymer micelles by ice templating, below 0 °C. We used this for the preparation of silica monoliths that present an ice-templated macroporosity, combined with a 2D hexagonal mesostructure templated by the addition of P123. We propose a mechanism triggered by the progressive freezing-induced concentration.

Ordered gold nanocrystal/silica particles were synthesized through self-assembly of nanocrystal micelles and silicate. Depending on the use of surfactants, and the kinetic conditions of silica hydrolysis and condensation, well-shaped and irregularly-shaped silica particles were formed, inside which the nanocrystals self-organized in a face-centered cubic mesostructure.

We report here on an efficient one-step-impregnation method to synthesize crystalline mesoporous bimetal oxides (e.g. NiFe(2)O(4), CuFe(2)O(4), Cu/CeO(2)) using mesoporous silicas as hard templates under optimized mixing conditions. This new procedure enables a true replication of the mesostructure with high yield and phase purity, while retaining particle morphology of the template.

An obvious visual feature of wood structure in many coniferous species, and especially pines, is the presence of annual growth rings. The growth rings are not completely uniform in width and often provide a record of weather and climate-based events that had an impact on growth. These events have impacts on the formation of the tapered cylindrical layer of earlywood in the early part of the gro...

We investigate the internal structure of a polymer during collapse from an expanded coil to a compact globule. Collapse is more probable in local regions of high curvature, so a smoothing of the fractal polymer structure occurs that proceeds systematically from the shortest to the longest length scales. A proposed universal scaling relationship is tested by comparison with Monte Carlo simulatio...

BACKGROUND The model of bilaterally ovariectomized rats mimics the accelerated bone loss observed in postmenopausal women due to estrogen deficiency. Although calcium is main mineral in bone, previous study in human showed there is hypermineralization and higher calcium level in hydroxyapatite crystal structure from osteoporosis patients. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of time c...

Amination of phenylene moieties in crystal-like mesoporous silica hybridized with phenylene is successfully achieved with close to 28% conversion of phenylene by a two-step chemical transformation process while preserving both the ordered mesostructure and crystal-like molecular scale periodicity of the parent material.

Through a combination of X-ray scattering and energy-filtered electron microscopy, we have quantitatively examined the relationship between the mesostructure of the photoactive layer and device performance in PBTTT/PC(71)BM solar cells. We can predict device performance from X-ray structural data through a simple morphological model which includes the exciton diffusion length.
