Non-contact testing is an important method for the study of the vibrating characteristic of cylindrical resonators. For the vibratory cylinder gyroscope excited by piezo-electric electrodes, mode testing of the cylindrical resonator is difficult. In this paper, a novel vibration testing method for cylindrical resonators is proposed. This method uses a MEMS microphone, which has the characterist...

We developed an iteration algorithm for open resonator simulation and employed it in studying the dynamics of mode formation. Simulations of an axially symmetrical empty resonator rely on an analytical description of radiation diffraction from a narrow ring. Reflection of an incident wave with a specified amplitude-phase distribution from the mirror is calculated by the Green function method. T...

The stability condition of a resonator formed by a 900 cone and mirror has been derived using ray tracing techniques. The result showed that this type of resonator is relatively insensitive to mirror misalignment. From this basis, the mirror misalignment tolerance was studied experimentally. Output energy and transverse mode characteristics vs. misalignment were measured, and the results show t...

An all-fiber-ring resonator has been constructed using a single strand of single-mode optical fiber and a directional coupler. Derivation of the resonator finesse in terms of fiber and directional coupler parameters is given. A finesse of 80 has been achieved experimentally. Applications of such a fiber-ring resonator are discussed.

The quantum critical coupling conditions, where single-photon transmission goes to zero, for systems of a coupled ring resonator and atom in a one-dimensional single-mode waveguide are discussed. The quantum critical coupling conditions could be achieved even with nonvanishing intrinsic losses of the resonator and the atom, with intermode backscattering between the whispering-gallery modes of t...

The use of quadrature RF magnetic fields has been demonstrated to be an efficient method to reduce transmit power and to increase the signal-to-noise (SNR) in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The goal of this project was to develop a new method using the common-mode and differential-mode (CMDM) technique for compact, planar, distributed-element quadrature transmit/receive resonators for MR sign...

The dark-mode effect is a stubborn obstacle for ground-state cooling of multiple degenerate mechanical modes optomechanically coupled to common cavity-field mode. Here we propose an auxiliary-cavity-mode method simultaneous two or near-degenerate by breaking the dark We find that introduction auxiliary cavity mode not only breaks effect, but also provides new channel extract thermal excitations...

Whispering gallery mode resonances in liquid droplets and microspheres have attracted considerable attention due to their potential uses in a range of sensing and technological applications. We describe a whispering gallery mode sensor in which standard optical fibre is used as the whispering gallery mode resonator. The sensor is characterised in terms of the response of the whispering gallery ...

This paper reports analytical modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) of the effect of two types of air damping (squeeze film and slide film damping) on resonance frequency and quality factor of a multi-layer CMOS-MEMS resonator designed for application as a mass sensitive gas sensor. The sensing principle is based on change in frequency or amplitude of the resonator due to adsorption/absorp...

We systematically characterize the Fabry-Pérot resonator. We derive the generic Airy distribution of a Fabry-Pérot resonator, which equals the internal resonance enhancement factor, and show that all related Airy distributions are obtained by simple scaling factors. We analyze the textbook approaches to the Fabry-Pérot resonator and point out various misconceptions. We verify that the sum of th...
