The perturbative treatment of subdominant oscillation and matter effect in neutrino beams/superbeams, propagating over long baselines and being used to look for CP violation, is studied here for a general matter density function varying with distance. New lowest order analytic expressions are given for different flavour transition and survival probabilities in a general neutrino mixing basis an...
Muon and muon antineutrino born in the decay of charged pion form the entangled spin state. The decay of muon with the left helicity triggers the left helicity for muon antineutrino to preserve the null total angular momentum of muon and muon antineutrino. This is forbidden for antineutrino hence one cannot detect the muon antineutrino after the decay of muon. This effect may explain the defici...
We report a first-principles theoretical study of hyperfine interactions, zero-point effects, and defect energetics of muonium and hydrogen impurities in silicon and germanium. The spin-polarized density-functional method is used, with the crystalline orbitals expanded in all-electron Gaussian basis sets. The behavior of hydrogen and muonium impurities at both the tetrahedral and bond-centered ...
Their capability to penetrate large depths of material renders high-energy atmospheric muons a unique probe for geophysical explorations. Provided the topography of the target is known, the measurement of the attenuation of the muon flux permits the cartography of matter density distributions revealing spatial and possibly also temporal variations in extended geological structures. A collaborat...
We present a framework for the study of muon density patterns on the ground due to showers produced in the atmosphere by cosmic rays incident at high zenith angles. As a checking procedure predictions of a model based on such a framework are compared to simulation results. PACS number(s): 96.40.Pq; 96.40.Tv
Spectra of local muon densities in high-energy extensive air-showers (EAS) are presented as signature of the primary cosmic ray energy spectrum in the knee region. The KASCADE central detector, with its two layers of multiwire proportional chambers and with a layer of scintillation counters, enables the measurements of muon densities at two different threshold energies. The spectra have been re...
Positive muon spin relaxation measurements performed on the ferromagnet UGe2 reveal, in addition to the well-known localized 5f-electron density responsible for the bulk magnetic properties, the existence of itinerant quasistatic magnetic correlations. Their critical dynamics is well described by the conventional dipolar Heisenberg model. These correlations involve small magnetic moments.
Frequency distributions of local muon densities in high-energy extensive air-showers (EAS) are presented as signature of the primary cosmic ray energy spectrum in the knee region. Together with the gross shower variables like shower core position, angle of incidence, and the shower sizes, the KASCADE experiment is able to measure local muon densities for two different muon energy thresholds. Th...
We investigate the effect of neutrino trapping on the kaon condensation process and Equation of State (EOS) in a newly formed neutron star matter which is less than several seconds old. Using nonlinear relativistic mean field model ,we find that the presence of neutrino shifts the threshold density for kaon condensation and muon production to much higher density. We also studied the pressure an...
