Carbon nanotubes (CNTs ) are considered to be one of the novel reinforcement for developing advanced nanocomposites due to their outstanding thermo-mechanical properties. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs ) are developed by arc discharge method. To enhance the dispersion of CNTs in polymer matrix, CNTs are modified with chemical treatment and processed by ultrasonication process. Surface ch...

The catalytic performance of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different surface chemistry was studied in the decomposition reaction of H2O2 at various values of pH and temperature. A comparative analysis of experimental and quantum chemical calculation results is given. It has been shown that both the lowest calculated activation energy (∼18.9 kJ/mol) and the highest rate constant co...

Recently portable Raman probes have emerged along with a variety of applications, including carbon nanotube (CNT) characterization. Aqueous dispersed CNTs have shown promise for biomedical applications such as drug/gene delivery vectors, photo-thermal therapy, and photoacoustic imaging. In this study we report the simultaneous detection and irradiation of carbon nanotubes in 2D monolayers of ca...

Molecular dynamics modeling shows that multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with sp;{3} interwall bonding have strengths exceeding those of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) containing the same size initial intrawall defect, and are far less sensitive to defect size. Thus, although processing methods used to increase interwall coupling also create intrawall defects, analyses here show that t...

Studies have proved that increasing polymer matrices by carbon nanotubes to form structural reinforcement and electrical conductivity have significantly improved mechanical and electrical properties at very low carbon nanotubes loading. In other words, increasing polymer matrices by carbon nanotubes to form structural reinforcement can reduce friction coefficient and enhance anti-wear property....

Individual Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) have a great mechanical strength that needs to be transferred into macroscopic fiber assemblies. One approach to improve the mechanical strength of the CNT assemblies is by creating covalent bonding among their individual CNT building blocks. Chemical cross-linking of multiwall CNTs (MWCNTs) within the fiber has significantly improved the strength of MWCNT thr...

Horizontally aligned, dense carbon nanotubes (HADCNTs) in the form of CNT cantilevers/bridges were grown from selected trench sidewalls in silicon substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The as-grown CNT cantilevers/bridges are packed with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with a linear density of about 10 CNTs µm(-1). The excellent horizontal alignment of these CNTs is mainly ascribe...

UNLABELLED Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) ultrafine fibers with different proportions of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) embedded have been fabricated using a modified electrospinning device with a rotating collector. With the increasing of MWCNT content, the β phase was noticeable enhanced, and the fibers became more elastic, which was manifested by Young's modulus decreased drastically...

Torsion of MWCNTs entails bumpy nanoscopic interwall phenomena, which gradually enhance the microscopic interwall coupling. This effect is likely to be confined at the ends of the suspended portions of the CNT, the structural changes required to link the outer wall to the inner ones being probably triggered by a complex interaction with the metal deposited onto the nanotube.

In this study, three types of hybrid nanotubes (NTs), ie, oxidized multiwalled carbon NTs (COOH MWCNTs), heparin (Hep)-conjugated MWCNTs (Hep MWCNTs), and diblock copolymer polyglycolic acid (PGA)-co-heparin conjugated to MWCNTs (PGA MWCNTs), were synthesized with improved biocompatibility and drug-loading capacity. Hydrophilic Hep substituents on MWCNTs improved biocompatibility and acted as n...
