online | memorias.ioc.fiocruz.br Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) is an infectious disease primarily caused by Mycobacterium bovis, which affects a wide range of mammals, including humans (Amanfu 2006). M. bovis is a member of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC), which also includes M. tuberculosis, Mycobacterium africanum, Mycobacterium canetti, Mycobacterium microti, Mycobacterium caprae a...

This study addressed the ability of Mycobacterium bovis to produce unusual extreme morphologic forms (cell wall-deficient or L-forms) under stress conditions. Models using nutrient starvation and cryogenic stress treatments of Mycobacterium bovis, as well as the filtration technique followed by cultivation in semisolid medium, were used for isolation of L-form variants. Morphological transforma...

DNA preparations from 24 New Zealand isolates, two reference strains of Mycobacterium bovis, and one reference strain each of Mycobacterium microti, Mycobacterium africanum, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis were characterized by restriction endonuclease analysis. Twenty-five restriction enzymes were investigated. The clearest differences in M. bovis patterns were obtained with the enzymes BstEII ...

A PCR specific for spacer regions 33 and 34 of the direct repeat region of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex was developed to complement the biochemical differentiation of M. tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis, M. bovis BCG, and Mycobacterium africanum subtypes I and II. In addition, this approach was incorporated into a multiplex PCR that included primers specific for IS6110 and the 65-kDa...

INTRODUCTION We describe an immunocompromised patient with Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens bacteremia and coinfection of Mycobacterium bovis pneumonia. CASE DESCRIPTION A 75-year-old male was admitted to our hospital complaining of persistent fever with general malaise. His medical history showed that he had diabetes mellitus (HbA1C 9.2%). A chest computed tomography (CT) showed left upper lung ...

Mycobacterium bovis is the etiologic agent of bovine tuberculosis, a chronic infectious disease, affecting livestock, wild animals, and sometimes humans. We report the draft genome sequence of a Mycobacterium bovis strain isolated from wild boar of spoligotype SB0120 (or BCG-like) also present in wildlife-livestock multi-host systems.

Mycobacterium bovis is responsible for a zoonosis originating in cattle. We report a case of a man with vertebral spondylodiscitis caused by Mycobacterium bovis. Diagnosis was complicated because of the lack of IS6110. These strains are rare, but microbiologists should be aware of their existence.

We report a case of chest wall abscess caused by Mycobacterium bovis BCG that arose as a complication 1 year after intravesical BCG instillation. We identified M. bovis BCG Tokyo 172 in the abscess by PCR-based typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and analysis of variable number of tandem repeats data.
