The clinical spectrum of Neisseria meningitidis can range from nasopharyngeal colonization to life-threatening invasive diseases such as meningitis. However, its etiologic role in invasive pyomyositis (PM) has never been reported before in the English language. In this study, we report the first case of PM in the English language and the second case in the literature caused by N meningitidis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of LRRC4 in nasopharyngeal carcinomas, nasopharyngeal precancerous lesions, and nasopharyngitis as well as the clinical significance of LRRC4. Fifty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were selected as study subjects; 28 patients with chronic nasopharyngitis and 22 patients with nasopharyngeal precancerous lesions served as controls. Im...
Human bocavirus (HBoV) and HBoV2, two human bocavirus species, were found in 18 and 10 of 235 nasopharyngeal aspirates, respectively, from children hospitalized with acute respiratory tract infection. Our results suggest that, like HBoV, HBoV2 is distributed worldwide and may be associated with respiratory and enteric diseases.

TO THE EDITOR—We read with interest the recent article by Winokur et al, in which they developed a safe experimental human model of nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) nasopharyngeal colonization [1]. In their study, both nasopharyngeal wash specimens and nasopharyngeal swab specimens were collected to culture NTHi. Colonization was detected in nasopharyngeal wash samples from 9 subjects ...
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that are involved in various diseases, including cancer. In the present study, we found that miR-216b was downregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines and specimens. Decreased expression of miR-216b was directly related to advanced clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. miR-216b levels correlated inversely with levels of KRAS protein ...

Nasal obstruction, serous otitis media, hearing problems, and tinnitus are common signs and symptoms of all nasal diseases.
