In the era of (pre) elimination setting, the prevalence of malaria has been decreasing in most of the previously endemic areas. Therefore, effective cost- and time-saving validated pooling strategy is needed for detection of malaria in low transmission settings. In this study, optimal pooling numbers and lowest detection limit were assessed using known density samples prepared systematically, f...

We analyze nested Bethe ansatz (NBA) and the corresponding finite size corrections. We find an integral equation which describes these corrections in a closed form. As an application we considered the conjectured Beisert-Staudacher (BS) equations with the Hernandez-Lopez dressing factor where the finite size corrections should reproduce generic one (worldsheet) loop computations around any clas...

A nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol using unique primers was developed to detect and quantify Myxococcus species from environmental samples. The protocol amplified most species of Myxococcus when 10 pg of DNA representing 1000 cells was present, although over half were amplified with as little as 0.1 pg (10 cells). The protocol did not amplify other myxobacterial species, members ...

,s.BsTRAcT, The prevalence of CtJ.aietla hurnetii infection in 207 cattle with repreductive disorders was studied by using an indireet immunofiuorescence <IF) tcst, nested polymerase chain reaction {PCR) and isolatien, IF antibodies te phase I and phase II antigens ef C, httrnetii were found in l22 (58.9%) and I25 <60.4%) of the sefa. respeclivcly, and PCR-positives svere found in 8 (3.9%) of t...

Nested Patch polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplifies a large number (greater than 90) of targeted loci from genomic DNA simultaneously in the same reaction. These amplified loci can then be sequenced on a second-generation sequencing machine to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and mutations. The reaction is highly specific: 90% of sequencing reads match targeted loci. Nested Patc...

Red band needle blight is one of the most important foliar diseases of Pinus species and is of increasing international forest health and biosecurity concern. To provide a rapid identification technique for this pathogen in support of official control measures, a nested polymerase chain reaction-based diagnostic assay that employs species-specific primer sets has been developed. The assay is ab...

Avian haemosporidia have been reported in various birds of Japan, which is part of the East Asian-Australian flyway and is an important stopover site for migratory birds potentially carrying new pathogens from other areas. We investigated the prevalence of avian malaria in injured wild birds, rescued in Tokyo and surrounding areas. We also evaluated the effects of migration by examining the pre...

Whether Pneumocystis colonization is transmitted in families with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected members is unknown. Using nested polymerase chain reaction of oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal samples, we detected colonization in 11.4% of HIV-infected adults and in 3.3% of their children, but there was no evidence of clustering.

One hundred and five samples of gastric washes were obtained from 52 pediatric patients. Eleven of the 105 samples (10%) gave positive results using immunofluorescence antibody test (IFA) for Pneumocystis jirovecii. Single-step polymerase chain reaction (PCR) produced 13% (14 samples), whereas detection by nested PCR was increased to 65 samples (62%). Moderate agreement (kappa = 0.5) was found ...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence of mixed-species (MS) malaria infection, and compare the results with microscopically confirmed cases of malaria. METHODS During 2010, blood spots collected from 371 clinically suspected cases of malaria were microscopically examined in a cross-sectional study. The DNA was extracted from the samples, and a nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was perfo...
