A [2+3] organic cage compound based on the condensation reaction of 1,3,5-tri(4-formylphenyl)benzene with 1,5-pentanediamine was synthesized. The resulting porous molecular crystal demonstrates selective adsorption of hydrogen and carbon dioxide over nitrogen. As for porous polymer membranes, a trade-off between sorption capacity and selectivity is observed for materials in this class.

An innovative strategy for post-synthesis nitrogen-doping of mesoporous carbons (MCs) with high yields (>90%) at low temperatures (230-380 °C) by using a strong base, sodium amide (NaNH2), was developed. The as-prepared N-doped MCs exhibit a significantly enhanced CO2 adsorption performance in terms of capacity and selectivity when compared to their parent MCs.

The uptake of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas by zeolite NaKA was studied. A very high ideal CO(2)-over-N(2) selectivity and a high CO(2) capacity were observed at an optimal K(+) content of 17 at.%. NaKA is a very promising adsorbent for CO(2) separation from water-free flue gases.

A colorimetric and fluorescent probe C-Py-1 for ONOO(-) was prepared and it could exhibit high sensitivity and excellent selectivity toward ONOO(-) among reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) with a rapid response time in 100% water solution.
