Thirty one term large for gestational age (LGA) infants of non-diabetic mothers were compared with 30 appropriate for gestational age controls. Median absolute nucleated red blood cell counts, lymphocyte counts, and packed cell volumes were significantly higher in the LGA infants than the controls. It is possible that LGA babies of non-diabetic mothers are exposed to relative intrauterine hypoxia.

BACKGROUND Human induced pluripotent stem cells offer perspectives for cell therapy and research models for diseases. We applied this approach to the normal and pathological erythroid differentiation model by establishing induced pluripotent stem cells from normal and homozygous sickle cell disease donors. DESIGN AND METHODS We addressed the question as to whether these cells can reach comple...

1. Intravenous injections in rabbits of F. Weber Co.'s Drawing Ink gave the following results: (a) With large doses, an outpouring of nucleated red blood cells, in many instances reaching high values (60,000 to 70,000 per c.mm.), accompanied by a slight initial rise of erythrocytes and hemoglobin, followed by a moderate anemia and in one animal, a severe anemia. (b) With smaller doses the prese...

The effects of cell age on protein synthesis were examined in the nucleated red blood cells of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Total DNA content was unaffected by cell age, whereas total RNA content in young red blood cells was roughly ten times as high as that in old red blood cells. The mRNA levels for haemoglobin, carbonic anhydrase and the chloride/bicarbonate (Cl(-)/HCO(3)(-)) exchang...

Since 1997, the availability, in haematology laboratories of automated analyzers capable of performing an extended differential blood cell count, including the nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) count, allowed their experimental use to estimate the cell composition of bone marrow fluid. In 1999 we evaluated the Sysmex XE-2100 to detect the clinical usefulness of immature granulocyte (IG) and NRBC ...
