We report the genome sequence of a novel iflavirus recovered from the transcriptome of a colony of the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys. The genome is 9,263 nucleotides (nt) and contains an open reading frame (ORF) encoding a 3,017-amino-acid polyprotein.

A gene identical to plasmid-borne bla(CTX-M-3) is present in the chromosome of one Kluyvera ascorbata strain. It is associated with a structure including an inverted repeat right and an open reading frame 477-like gene probably involved in the mobilization of bla(CTX-M-3). Two other K. ascorbata strains rendered the previously described bla(KLUA-9) gene.

We present the complete genome sequence of a virus found in raw sewage collected in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pittsburgh sewage-associated virus 1 (PSAV1) encodes one large open reading frame with conserved domains typically found in the Picornavirales order of viruses. PSAV1 is closely related to Biomphalaria virus 2 (BV2).

The yjzA open reading frame, along with med, constitutes an operon. Disruption of yjzA caused a five-fold enhancement of comG expression, thereby leading to a three-fold-higher transformation efficiency. The expression of comK and the other three late competence operons was not affected significantly in the yjzA-deficient mutant.

Presented here is a draft genome sequence for Staphylococcus agnetis CBMRN 20813338, isolated from a lactating dairy cow with subclinical mastitis. The genome is approximately 2,416 kb and has 35.79% G+C content. Analysis of the deduced open reading frame (ORF) set identified candidate virulence attributes in addition to potential molecular targets for species identification.

Computational, genomic, and proteomic approaches have been used to discover nonannotated protein-coding small open reading frames (smORFs). Some novel smORFs have crucial biological roles in cells and organisms, which motivates the search for additional smORFs. Proteomic smORF discovery methods are advantageous because they detect smORF-encoded polypeptides (SEPs) to validate smORF translation ...
