introduction: the research results showed that there was a relatively large gap in training operating room skills and clinical practice, so that clinical training did not enable students to perform the required tasks. one of the new approaches in training is a mentoring program. the aim of this study was to review mentoring of operating room students. methods: this study was a systematic review...

Due to the great importance of operating rooms in hospitals, this paper studies an operating room scheduling problem with open scheduling strategy. According to this strategy, no time slot is reserved for a particular surgeon. The surgeons can use all available time slots. Based on Fei et al.’s model which is considered to be close to reality, we develop a heuristic algorithm to solve it. The i...

The increasing interest in the domain of operating room planning and scheduling leads to a proliferation of problem types. The statement and the scope of the particular problems, however, are often unclear. In this paper, we report on a scheme to classify operating room planning and scheduling problems using multiple fields. Each field describes a specific set of characteristics of the particul...

Outpatient surgery scheduling involves the coordination of several activities in an uncertain environment. Due to the very customized nature of surgical procedures there is significant uncertainty in the duration of activities related to the intake process, surgical procedure, and recovery process. Furthermore, there are multiple criteria which must be traded off when considering how to schedul...

Using simulation, we compare three offline packing heuristics for adjustable-size bins, a problem derived from operating room scheduling, on 500 days of generated data using different cost structures. Unlike classical bin-packing studies, we found that next-fit-decreasing is the best performing method. Subject Areas: Simulation, Bin Packing, OR and Scheduling.
